“No Signal” usually means your XP-Pen display is powered but is not receiving usable video from the computer. Start by checking the connection diagram for your exact Artist model: some use USB-C for video, while others require separate video and USB data connections. Then verify the cables and computer display settings before troubleshooting the pen driver.
What “No Signal” means
The message points to the video path between the computer and the display, not necessarily to a failed tablet. A display can have power while receiving no usable picture. On the Artist 22 Plus specifically, XP-Pen’s connection instructions say the indicator is orange when the display has power but no signal, and blue when it is connected to the computer and switched on. Indicator behavior may differ on other models.
Because Artist models do not all use the same cable arrangement, identify your exact model and follow its manual before unplugging or replacing anything. A setup that works for one display may not work for another.
Work through these checks in order
-
Confirm your model’s connection method
Look up the connection diagram in the manual for your exact XP-Pen model. Check which ports and included cables carry video, data, and power. Do not assume that a single USB-C cable is supported just because the display and computer both have USB-C ports.

Check power and reseat the cables
Make sure the display’s power adapter and cord are connected. Unplug and firmly reconnect every cable required by the model, including video, USB/data, and power leads. XP-Pen’s Artist 12 troubleshooting guidance and older Artist troubleshooting guidance recommend checking that cords are securely seated.
-
Verify USB-C video support at both ends
For the Artist 10, 12, 13, and 16 2nd Generation models covered by XP-Pen’s USB-C connection FAQ, the computer’s USB-C port must support video Alternate Mode, and the cable must be full-featured. A USB-C port limited to charging or data will not provide the display’s video signal, and a charging-only cable is not a substitute. XP-Pen says all Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 4 ports on Mac qualify for these models; for other ports, it advises checking with the computer manufacturer.

Check both video and data connections on HDMI setups
For the Artist 22 Plus, XP-Pen’s connection instructions use HDMI for video and a USB-C-to-USB-A or USB-C-to-USB-C lead for data, with the display connected to power. This is an example for that model, not a universal wiring recipe. Follow your own model’s diagram and confirm each required lead is connected.

Select a multi-display mode in Windows
Press Windows+P and choose Duplicate to mirror your computer screen, or Extend to use the XP-Pen as an additional workspace. XP-Pen’s Windows display guidance notes that selecting PC screen only—also described as “one screen only”—can leave the other display black with no signal.

Restart, then test with another computer
After reconnecting the cables, restart the computer and power-cycle the display. If the message remains, connect the XP-Pen to a second computer using the model’s correct cable setup. XP-Pen recommends cross-computer testing in its Artist 12 troubleshooting guidance and older Artist troubleshooting guidance. This test helps narrow down whether the issue follows the host setup or remains with the display or its cables; it does not, by itself, identify a failed component.
Why a USB-C cable or port may not work
USB-C describes the connector, not every capability it can carry. For the named Artist 2nd Generation models, video requires Alternate Mode support on the computer and a full-featured cable. XP-Pen’s support FAQ puts it this way: “Please make sure that the USB-C port on your computer supports Alternate Mode (All Thunderbolt 3/4 ports on Mac are qualified), otherwise, the tablet will get ‘No Signal, Power Saving’.” Check the computer’s specifications or ask its manufacturer if the port’s video support is unclear.

Include the exact display model, computer and operating system, cable arrangement, and the results of testing on the second computer. XP-Pen’s older troubleshooting guides advise contacting support if the problem continues across computers.
