The laptop in question is XMG’s APEX 15 MAX E22, a desktop-replacement system announced with support for AMD’s desktop Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Its desktop AM4 socket and a custom BIOS update—not a mobile version of the processor—made the unusual configuration possible. XMG called it the first notebook to support AMD 3D V-Cache; that “first” claim is XMG’s, not an independently established ranking.
What laptop has a Ryzen 7 5800X3D?
It is the XMG APEX 15 MAX E22. In its October 4, 2022 announcement, XMG said BIOS 1.07.09A01, which includes AGESA 1.2.0.7, enabled the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in this model. Customers could order a configured system or upgrade an existing E22. The key hardware distinction is that the laptop’s B550 motherboard has a desktop AM4 socket, rather than a soldered mobile-CPU design. XMG’s announcement
This is not the separately named XMG APEX 15 M21. XMG lists that model with mobile Ryzen 7 5800H or Ryzen 9 5900HX processors; compatibility for the E22 should not be read as applying to the M21 or to ordinary laptops. XMG APEX 15 M21 specifications

The APEX 15 MAX is an unusually upgradeable desktop-replacement design: its B550 board accepts desktop AM4 processors, and XMG’s BIOS update added support for the 5800X3D. A laptop CPU upgrade is therefore possible only because this particular machine has a socketed desktop processor and manufacturer-provided firmware support. The announcement is not evidence that a 5800X3D can be installed in a typical notebook.

AMD introduced the 5800X3D as an eight-core desktop processor and its first Ryzen processor with 3D V-Cache. How did the 5800X3D perform in XMG’s tests?
Gaming result
In XMG’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider test at the High preset, the 5800X3D scored 152 versus 117 for the Ryzen 7 5700X, which XMG described as about 30% ahead. XMG used an APEX 15 MAX with GeForce RTX 3070 and 64 GB (2×32 GB) DDR4-3200 RAM. CPU rendering results
The same XMG publication shows a different outcome in CineBench: the 5800X3D did not lead the listed CPU-focused comparisons. XMG reported these scores:

These are XMG benchmarks, not independent lab results. XMG said processors from the 5800X upward ran in AMD ECO Mode with up to 88 W PPT in this laptop. AMD separately claimed the 5800X3D offered “up to 15% more gaming performance” compared with processors without stacked-cache technology. That is AMD’s claim about its own comparisons, not a result measured on the APEX 15 MAX. AMD’s press release

In 2022, XMG listed a starting configuration with a Ryzen 5 5600X, GeForce RTX 3060, 16 GB (2×8 GB) DDR4-3200, a 500 GB Samsung 980 SSD, and a 240 Hz Full HD IPS display. XMG’s announcement listed a €1,379 starting price including 19% VAT and a €342 upgrade to the 5800X3D. It also advertised a €300 discount through October 11, 2022, making the advertised starting price €1,079 during that offer. Is the XMG APEX 15 MAX a desktop replacement?
Yes: the desktop socket and full-size desktop processor support that description, and contemporaneous coverage also characterized it as a desktop replacement. HotHardware reported a weight of 2.6 kg and dimensions of 361 × 258 × 32.5 mm, but those figures are secondary-source specifications and should not be treated as definitive E22 measurements without confirmation from XMG documentation.
