The two phones take different routes to the same mid-range buyer. The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G leans on a larger listed battery and a main-plus-ultra-wide rear camera setup. The OPPO Reno16c 5G offers a 3.5x optical telephoto camera, expandable storage and a published India price list. Which one is better value depends on the exact regional model you can buy, and on the local price for that model, which is the part this comparison cannot settle with confidence.
What the two phones offer on paper
The figures below come from manufacturer product pages. The Redmi figures are from Xiaomi’s Peru specification page, not an Indian one, so treat them as a reference for that configuration rather than a confirmed Indian spec sheet.

Battery and charging: the largest spec gap on paper
The clearest numerical difference is battery capacity. Xiaomi’s Peru page lists a 9,210mAh typical battery, while OPPO’s India page lists 7,000mAh typical with a 6,850mAh rated figure. Those are the manufacturers’ own numbers for their respective regional pages, and the gap is roughly 2,200mAh in the typical rating.

Charging speed is also listed differently. The Redmi page specifies up to 100W wired charging and 27W reverse wired charging for the Peru configuration. The Reno16c’s India page specifies 80W SUPERVOOC flash charge. OPPO’s own product wording reads: “The OPPO Reno16c 5G has a 7000mAh typical capacity battery, rated at 6850mAh, and supports 80W SUPERVOOC flash charge.” Both figures are maximum rated speeds. Real-world charge times depend on the charger supplied in the box, which is not guaranteed to match the headline wattage in every market.
Cameras: telephoto versus ultra-wide
The two phones emphasise different focal ranges. The Redmi’s published rear setup is a 50MP main sensor with optical image stabilisation plus an 8MP ultra-wide. The Reno16c’s official page highlights a 50MP telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom, and OPPO’s detailed comparison also lists a 50MP main and 8MP ultra-wide.

That makes the practical choice one of framing. An ultra-wide lens gives you a wider field of view for group shots, interiors and landscapes. A 3.5x optical telephoto lets you get closer to distant subjects without the quality loss of digital zoom. Neither spec sheet establishes which phone produces better photos, and no side-by-side image testing was found, so this comparison does not rank camera quality.
Display and processor
Both phones use 120Hz-class displays in the sources reviewed, but the Redmi’s listed panel is larger and has a higher resolution figure. The OPPO’s display is listed at 6.57 inches. Because the Redmi figures come from a Peru page, the panel size and resolution should be confirmed against the Indian model before you rely on them.

The processors differ too. The Redmi uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, and the Reno16c uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300-Energy. No matched benchmark or sourced performance test was found for these two configurations, so this comparison does not claim one chip is faster in everyday use.
Price difference: what is verified and what is not
OPPO’s India page is the only official price list in the sources reviewed. It lists the Reno16c 5G at ₹49,999 for 8GB/128GB, ₹53,999 for 8GB/256GB and ₹59,999 for 12GB/256GB, inclusive of taxes. OPPO states these prices were correct as of 9 September 2026 and that they can change. At the time of writing, that date is about a month old, so check the OPPO Store India listing before you buy.

No official Xiaomi India price for the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G was verified. A 91mobiles comparison page displayed Amazon marketplace prices of ₹49,999 for the Redmi and ₹52,999 for the Reno16c when it was accessed in 2026. Those figures are marketplace offers, not manufacturer prices, and they may be out of date. They also compare storage and battery details that do not match the manufacturers’ own pages. The price gap they suggest should not be treated as a confirmed difference between the two phones.

Which phone fits which buyer
- Choose the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G if a larger listed battery, a larger display and a main-plus-ultra-wide camera setup matter more to you than telephoto reach. Confirm the Indian model’s battery, charger and storage before you compare prices.
- Choose the OPPO Reno16c 5G if the 3.5x optical telephoto camera, the option to add a memory card, or a published India price list matters to you. The 8GB/128GB model is the lowest-cost entry point on OPPO’s list.
Checks to make before you buy either phone
- Confirm the exact regional model number and that its specifications match the page you are reading. Xiaomi notes that network bands and NFC support can vary by region.
- Compare the same RAM and storage configuration on both sides.
- Check whether the charger is in the box. OPPO notes that box contents may vary by market, and Xiaomi advises checking charger availability with the local seller.
- Check the warranty terms, software update commitments and the seller’s current price, since marketplace prices change frequently.
Once those points are confirmed, the choice comes down to whether you value battery capacity and display size, or telephoto zoom and expandable storage.
