The Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G has an unusually large 8,340 mAh battery and review results point to excellent endurance—but the available evidence does not establish a market-wide battery record. Its appeal is strongest if long battery life and a bright screen matter more to you than demanding gaming or consistently strong low-light and zoom photography.
Does the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G have record-breaking battery life?
It has a very large battery, and two reviews describe strong endurance. Newsbytes.PH reported a result of 22 hours and 32 minutes in its PCMark Work 3.1 battery test. That is a result from one reviewer’s test, not a prediction of how long the phone will last during your mix of calls, video, gaming, navigation and standby.
Xiaomi lists the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G’s capacity as 8,340 mAh. Notebookcheck’s October 6, 2026 review also found battery life to be a strength, but neither that review nor the other available coverage establishes that the phone leads the entire market. “Record-breaking” is therefore a question, not a verified ranking.
Capacity alone does not identify the handset: Notebookcheck also reports an 8,340 mAh battery in the separate Xiaomi Poco X8. Check the model name and configuration when comparing listings. Notebookcheck’s Poco X8 report

What charging should you expect?
Xiaomi specifies 67 W wired HyperCharge and up to 22.5 W wired reverse charging for the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G. The manufacturer’s Australia product page also advertises “60-hour battery endurance” and “Beyond 2-day battery life”; those are Xiaomi claims, not independent test results. The phone does not support wireless charging, according to Notebookcheck.
Notebookcheck measured approximately 65 minutes to charge its review unit using a Xiaomi 2500 power bank. That time belongs to that review setup; it is not a guarantee for every charger, region or charging condition. The reviewer said the tested package included a USB-C cable, but the 67 W HyperCharger was sold separately. Check what your local box and retailer include before relying on full-speed charging. What else does the phone offer?
A large, bright display
The Australia product page lists a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display. Notebookcheck praises its brightness, making the screen one of the phone’s clearest strengths alongside endurance. A large display is useful for video and reading, though it also makes this a sizeable handset rather than a compact option.
Water and drop protection—with limits
Xiaomi lists IP66/IP68 protection and says the phone passed a TÜV SÜD 2-meter, 72-hour water-resistance test. That statement is Xiaomi’s, not an independent review finding. The company describes underwater mode as limited to static fresh water at up to 2 m for up to 30 minutes, and excludes seawater, pools, hot water and professional diving. Do not treat the rating or underwater mode as permission for unrestricted swimming or diving. Xiaomi’s product page explains its water-resistance conditions

Performance and cameras are the trade-offs
Notebookcheck’s overall assessment is mixed: it praises battery endurance, display brightness, robust build and long update support, while criticizing the processor and camera, especially low-light and zoom results. It also notes plastic construction, Wi-Fi 5 and speakers that lack depth. Newsbytes.PH likewise describes graphics performance as modest and says video recording is limited to 30 fps. Those compromises matter more if you play demanding games, often photograph at night or expect high-frame-rate video.

Who should buy the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G?
- Consider it if you want a very large battery, long endurance, a bright AMOLED screen and the configurations and local price suit you.
- Look more closely at alternatives if gaming performance, low-light or zoom photography, high-frame-rate video, wireless charging or a compact design are priorities.
- Compare like with like: check endurance under the same test, local price and storage configuration, charging equipment, camera and video performance, and the limits of each durability claim. Notebookcheck’s review compares the Redmi with devices including the Samsung Galaxy A57, Xiaomi Poco X8 Pro, Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G and Nothing Phone 4a; results from different tests and regional variants should not be treated as directly interchangeable.
