The Xiaomi Redmi A5 is a budget 4G smartphone sold in India in two configurations: 3GB RAM with 64GB storage, and 4GB RAM with 128GB storage. Its confirmed India launch prices were ₹6,499 and ₹7,499, announced in April 2025. As of 4 October 2026, we could not confirm a current selling price. A later third-party price tracker showed ₹8,995 and stated that no online store had the phone available, so check a live seller listing before you buy.
India price: what is confirmed and what is not
Launch prices, April 2025
India Today’s launch report dated 15 April 2025 gave the following prices, with sales starting 16 April 2025. These are launch prices, not today’s prices.

Later observed price
A 91mobiles price panel showed ₹8,995 for the phone and stated that it was not available in any online store. The panel did not state which variant, colour or seller the figure referred to, so treat it as an indicator of later market pricing rather than a live offer. It is also well above the April 2025 launch prices, which is why the launch figures should not be used as a current quote.

The Xiaomi India product page we reviewed does not show a selling price, so it cannot confirm what the phone costs today.

How to check today’s price
- Open the Redmi A5 listing on your preferred Indian seller and confirm the exact variant: 3GB/64GB or 4GB/128GB.
- Check the listed price against the checkout total, including any bank or coupon discount that is shown as a separate line.
- Confirm the colour and stock status at the moment of purchase. Listings for this phone have appeared out of stock.
- Open the product description and confirm what is in the box. Xiaomi states that package contents can differ by region, so compare the included accessories with the official India specification.

What the specifications mean in use
Display
The 120Hz figure applies only to apps that support adaptive refresh. Many apps and tasks will run at lower rates, so do not expect 120Hz everywhere. Xiaomi says the panel has TÜV low blue light and flicker-free certification, and it describes the display as Circadian Friendly. Xiaomi also notes that its internal-lab data may differ in real use.
Chipset and memory
India Today identifies the chipset as the UNISOC T7250. Its launch coverage also notes that the predecessor, the Redmi A4, used a Snapdragon 4s Gen 2. That is an observation about the two chipsets, not a controlled performance comparison, so it does not establish how the A5 compares in speed or multitasking. Xiaomi also states that usable memory is lower than the nominal figure because the operating system and preinstalled software take up part of it. The memory extension feature is a Xiaomi-listed capability, and it should be judged on the device itself rather than on the headline number.

Cameras
The rear camera is a 32MP AI dual camera with f/2.0 aperture, and the front camera is 8MP at f/2.2. Both are listed for video up to 1080p at 30fps. Xiaomi lists film-camera, HDR, portrait and time-lapse modes. These are listed capabilities. No image-quality test results are established for this model.
Battery and charging
The 5200mAh capacity is a typical rating, and Xiaomi’s listing does not state battery-life results. Charging is rated up to 15W over USB Type-C. Xiaomi’s product page says 15W charging requires its wired charging set of the same power, and that actual power can vary. Because the charger in the box is listed as a regional item, check the seller’s bundle to confirm you receive a charger that matches the 15W rating.
Connectivity and 4G
Does the Redmi A5 support 5G? No. Xiaomi’s official India specification lists dual 4G, and the phone should not be treated as a 5G device. The supported bands are listed in the table above, but they should be checked against your carrier and region before you buy, since band support determines which networks the phone will work on at full speed.

Software updates
The phone ships with Android 15. Xiaomi commits to two Android major updates and four years of security patches. The India page does not name the future Android versions or publish an update schedule, so the commitment should be read as a count of updates, not as a timetable.
Build and protection
The IP52 rating is a dust and light water-drip rating. It does not mean the phone is waterproof, and it should not be used to justify exposure to water.

Pick 3GB/64GB if you mainly use the phone for messaging, calls and light apps, and you plan to use a microSD card for photos and media. Pick 4GB/128GB if you want more usable storage on the phone itself and more RAM headroom for apps you keep open at the same time. The price gap between the two variants is the figure to confirm at checkout, because the difference shown in the launch prices may not match current listings.
Who should consider the Redmi A5
The Redmi A5 suits buyers who want a 4G phone with a large 6.88-inch display, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a removable microSD card and Xiaomi’s stated software support. Buyers who need 5G, a stronger verified performance record or a confirmed current price should check live listings and independent reviews before they commit.
