The Xiaomi 17T is a strong pick for buyers who want real optical reach from a phone in the mid-to-upper price band. Its headline feature is a 50MP 5x periscope telephoto camera, paired with a 6500mAh battery and a 120Hz display. Reviewers generally describe it as quick and capable, with long endurance. Its compromises are real, though: there is no wireless charging, wired charging tops out at 67W, the frame is plastic, and camera opinions are mixed when it is set against the best camera phones.
Is the Xiaomi 17T worth buying?
For most buyers who want a capable Android phone with a longer zoom than typical mid-range models offer, yes. The 17T’s combination of a 5x optical-style telephoto lens, a large battery and a smooth screen sets it apart at its level. It is less compelling if wireless charging, a premium metal or glass frame, or the strongest possible camera results are non-negotiable. Those trade-offs are explained below, along with the reviewer observations behind them.
Key specifications
Xiaomi’s official specifications list the following. Storage options, packaging and some details can differ by market.

| Front camera | 32MP |
| Video | Rear 4K HDR10+ modes listed |
| Frame and protection | Plastic frame (per Tech Advisor’s 2026 review); Gorilla Glass 7i; IP68 rating |
Xiaomi markets the camera system under the Leica brand, and the main sensor is listed as a 50MP Light Fusion 800.

Performance and display
Day-to-day speed is the most consistent praise across reviews. TechRadar’s 2026 review describes the phone as fast for varied tasks, including streaming and gaming, and says it stayed cool during its testing. Tech Advisor also found everyday use responsive.
Gaming results are less uniform. Tech Advisor reports that a demanding game was best played on the 30fps “smooth” preset to suit its preferred experience, which means the top frame-rate setting was not its default choice in that title. Treat these as two reviewers’ experiences in specific games rather than a universal benchmark. If sustained high frame rates in one particular game matter to you, check that title’s reviews on the same hardware.
The 120Hz AMOLED panel gives scrolling and animations a smooth feel, which is the main reason the display is praised. Its 6.59-inch size is on the larger side for one-handed use.

Camera: the 5x telephoto is the point
The 17T’s clearest hardware difference is its 5x periscope lens. Most phones in this price band stop at a 2x or 3x optical-style zoom, so the 17T lets you frame distant subjects with much less cropping. Its main and ultra-wide cameras are more conventional, and the reviewers’ verdicts reflect that split.
How the zoom results compare by reviewer
| Zoom level | Reviewer observation | Source (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Main camera | Photos described as sharp and vivid | TechRadar |
| 5x | Good results, with some loss of clarity | TechRadar |
| 10x | Nearly flawless to the reviewer | Tech Advisor |
| 20x | Usable results to the reviewer | Tech Advisor |
These impressions are subjective and depend on lighting, subject and settings. They are not lab measurements, and the reviewers did not publish side-by-side scores against rival phones.
Where the camera falls short
Reviewers did not place the 17T at the very top of the camera category. Its strength is reach and versatility, not consistent perfection across every scene. If your main use is low-light photography or the highest possible detail at 5x, compare its sample shots with the best camera phones before deciding.

Battery life: what the figures actually measure
The 17T has a 6500mAh rated battery, and the reviews report strong endurance. However, the two main reviews used different methods, so their results should not be compared as if they came from the same test.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Source | Method | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Tech Advisor (2026) | PCMark battery drain test | 15 hours 30 minutes |
| Tech Advisor (2026) | Personal use by the reviewer | An easy day; reaching lunchtime on day two was common |
| TechRadar (2026) | Mixed use in the reviewer’s own routine | Over three days |
The lab-style drain test measures a fixed workload, while the personal-use accounts reflect real habits such as messaging, navigation, camera use and signal strength. None of these is a guaranteed figure for your phone. Heavy gaming, constant 120Hz use, weak network coverage and heavy camera use will shorten battery life.
Charging: fast wired, no wireless
The 17T supports 67W wired charging. It does not support wireless charging, according to Tech Advisor’s 2026 review. Buyers who rely on a wireless charging pad or a wireless car mount need to plan for a cable setup or look at other models.

Build, durability and water resistance
Tech Advisor reports that the frame is plastic, and that the reviewed unit came with a basic pre-applied screen protector and a matte black TPU case. The phone uses Gorilla Glass 7i on its screen.
The IP68 rating needs careful reading. Xiaomi India’s official product page says IP68 applies under specified laboratory conditions: static freshwater submersion up to 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes. The same page warns that normal wear, damage or repairs can reduce resistance over time, and says beach use is not recommended. Treat IP68 as protection against accidental splashes and short immersion, not as permission for sand, saltwater or repeated submersion.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat is in the box
Xiaomi India’s product page lists a charger, a USB Type-C cable, a SIM tool, a protective case, documents and a desiccant pack. Package contents vary by region, so check the listing for your market. If the box includes a charger, you do not need a second one for the 67W charging speed.

Price and availability
TechRadar’s 2026 review gives a UK starting price of £649, and Tech Advisor’s June 2026 pricing context shows the same figure. These are UK prices from review coverage at the time they were written. The sources did not establish current prices in other countries, live stock levels, regional launch dates or the current price on any retailer. Check the official Xiaomi site or a local retailer for the price in your market before you buy.
Software support length is also not stated in these sources. Android 16 with HyperOS 3 is the listed software at launch, but the number of years of updates should be confirmed with Xiaomi for your region.
How it compares with other phones
Reviewers name the Xiaomi 15T and Xiaomi 17T Pro as the most relevant comparisons, and TechRadar also names the Honor 600. The table below sets out the points the sources address. Where a value is not established, it is marked as such.
| Point | Xiaomi 17T | Xiaomi 15T | Xiaomi 17T Pro |
|---|---|---|---|
| Telephoto reach | 5x periscope (50MP) | 2x telephoto (per TechRadar, 2026) | Not stated in these sources |
| Position in the line-up | Smaller option than the Pro (per Tech Advisor, 2026) | Not stated in these sources | Larger, higher-tier option (per Tech Advisor, 2026) |

| Frame material | Plastic (per Tech Advisor, 2026) | Not stated in these sources | Not stated in these sources |
| Price | £649 UK starting price (2026) | Not stated in these sources | Not stated in these sources |
Tech Advisor notes that the higher price of the 17T brings it into closer competition with other phones in the range, so local pricing should drive the final decision. Confirm model names and regional details before you compare prices directly.
Quick Recap
Who should buy the Xiaomi 17T, and who should look elsewhere
Buy it if you:
- Want optical-style reach up to 5x in a phone that is not a flagship price.
- Value a long rated battery and a smooth 120Hz display for everyday use.
- Do not depend on wireless charging.
- Are comfortable with a plastic frame and a phone protected by a case and screen protector.
Look elsewhere if you:
- Need wireless charging.
- Want a premium metal or glass frame.
- Want the strongest possible camera results across all scenes, including low light.
- Find the local price is higher than comparable alternatives. Compare the Xiaomi 15T, the Xiaomi 17T Pro and the Honor 600 before deciding.
