The Xiaomi 17 is the better fit if you want a compact, lighter phone; the POCO F9 Ultra gives you a much larger screen, a bigger battery and more memory and storage options. Both reviews list the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, so the choice is mainly about size, battery capacity, camera hardware, configuration and the price you can verify in your market.

Specifications and observations above come from the TechRadar Xiaomi 17 review (published April 10, 2026) and the TechRadar POCO F9 Ultra review (first tested September 2026). They are review-reported details, not a controlled head-to-head test.
Which phone is better for your priorities?
Choose the Xiaomi 17 for a smaller phone
At 191g and 151.1mm tall, the Xiaomi 17 is substantially more compact and lighter than the 235g, 163.5mm POCO. Its 6.3-inch display is the more manageable option if you prefer a phone that takes up less space in a pocket or is easier to handle one-handed.
Choose the POCO F9 Ultra for a bigger display and battery
The POCO’s 6.9-inch screen offers more viewing area for video, games and other content. Its 8,050mAh battery is larger on paper than the Xiaomi 17’s 6,330mAh battery. TechRadar’s reviewers described multi-day use for the POCO and well-over-a-day use for the Xiaomi, but those are separate review experiences—not a controlled comparison of battery life.

Performance and configurations
The two reviews list the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. The POCO offers more configuration choice: it can be listed with 12GB or 16GB RAM and up to 1TB storage, while the Xiaomi review lists 12GB RAM and 256GB or 512GB storage. TechRadar’s September 1, 2026 POCO launch report says the F9 Ultra retained the F8 Ultra’s chipset; it attributes the launch approach to memory-cost pressure and POCO’s view that performance depends on more than adopting a newer chip.
Camera comparison: focal length matters more than megapixels alone
The Xiaomi has three 50MP rear cameras, including a 2.6× telephoto. The POCO pairs a 200MP main camera with a 50MP ultrawide and a 50MP 5× telephoto. That gives the systems different hardware choices and zoom ranges, but megapixel counts alone do not establish which takes better photos. Compare sample images—especially at the zoom levels you use—and consider how each handles color and detail. The cited reviews do not provide a controlled comparison that establishes an overall camera winner.

Software and support
Both reviews describe HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. The POCO review states four Android version updates and six years of security patches. The cited Xiaomi 17 review does not state a support duration, so these sources do not establish which phone will receive longer support.
Price difference and availability
A reliable price difference cannot be calculated from the cited review figures. TechRadar’s April 10, 2026 Xiaomi 17 review lists UK prices of £899 for 256GB and £999 for 512GB, and says the phone was not available in the US at the time of that review. The POCO review gives conflicting UK base-price references: £899 in its overview and £749 in its price-and-availability section; both sections give $799. These are review-date references, not live quotes, and the POCO figures do not support a dependable direct comparison.

To compare what you would actually pay, check both phones in the same marketplace on the same date, match storage tiers, and confirm the seller and regional model. Availability and pricing can vary by market and change after a review is published.

The POCO review says its UK box does not include a charger. That does not establish what is included in other regions, so check the packaging information for the exact market and model you intend to buy. The review’s charging test used a separate 100W brick; it does not establish that the same charger is included or suitable for every buyer.
