These phones suit different priorities: the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is a conventional flagship built around Leica-branded camera hardware, while Samsung’s book-style Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra opens into an 8-inch main display for a larger workspace. Choose between them first by form factor and the way you use a camera—not by assuming one is universally better. A precise price difference depends on matching country, storage, and offer conditions.

How the form factors change everyday use
Xiaomi 17 Ultra: standard phone proportions
The Xiaomi stays in the conventional-phone category. That makes it the more natural fit if you want a single-screen handset and prioritize the camera system described below. The supplied manufacturer specifications do not establish a comparable screen-size figure, so this comparison does not assign one.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: an 8-inch inner screen
The Fold8 Ultra’s defining hardware distinction is its book-style foldable design and 8-inch main display, identified by Samsung Mobile Press at launch. That larger unfolded screen is relevant if you expect to read, view, or work with content on a tablet-like surface while carrying a phone-sized folded device. Samsung announced the 2026 Galaxy Z series on August 6, 2026, with worldwide rollout beginning August 7 and expanding to 106 markets; availability in a particular country should be checked locally. Xiaomi UK lists three rear cameras: a 50 MP main camera with a 1-inch Light Fusion 1050L sensor, optical image stabilization and a 23 mm-equivalent focal length; a 200 MP 75–100 mm telephoto camera with OIS; and a 50 MP 14 mm ultra-wide camera with a 115-degree field of view. Xiaomi also lists 8K recording at 30 frames per second and 4K Dolby Vision recording up to 120 fps, among other modes. These are the manufacturer’s stated specifications, not independent image-quality measurements. Xiaomi UK

Samsung’s announcement describes the Fold8 Ultra camera as a 200 MP HDR system. That headline number alone cannot show how the phone compares with Xiaomi’s separate main, telephoto, and ultra-wide modules: megapixels are not a verdict on image quality, and the cited launch material does not provide a like-for-like independent camera test. Samsung Mobile Press
Display, battery, and storage details
Samsung says the Fold8 Ultra display is 15% brighter than the Fold7 display and has a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. These are Samsung claims, not independent brightness measurements. Samsung US also lists a 5,000 mAh battery and claims up to 27 hours of video playback; actual endurance depends on use, and the playback figure is a manufacturer claim rather than a comparative test. The US product page offers 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB configurations. Samsung US

Price difference: compare within one market
There is no defensible single price difference from the available figures. Xiaomi Corporation gives 2026 launch starting prices of RMB 6,999 in mainland China and EUR 1,499 for the overseas/European launch. Samsung US lists the Fold8 Ultra from $2,099.99 before trade-in, with promotions subject to change. Those are different markets and offer conditions, and they do not establish matching storage tiers. For additional launch-price context, TechRadar reported the Fold8 Ultra at $2,099.99, £1,899, and AU$2,999. It also reported the separate, non-Ultra Galaxy Z Fold8 at $1,899.99, £1,699, and AU$2,699; those standard Fold8 prices are not prices for the Ultra and are not a Xiaomi comparison. TechRadar
To calculate a useful difference, compare each phone’s live price in your country at the same storage capacity, on the same date, and with the same treatment of trade-in credits and promotions. Do not convert the Xiaomi launch prices into dollars and compare them with Samsung’s US store listing as if they were simultaneous local retail offers.

Which phone should you choose?
- Choose the Xiaomi 17 Ultra if you want a conventional phone and its specified camera hardware—especially the 1-inch main sensor and stabilized 200 MP telephoto—is the more relevant fit for your photography priorities.
- Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra if you want a book-style foldable and expect to make practical use of its 8-inch main display. Samsung US provides a defined 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB storage ladder, but check the offer in your own market.
- Hold off on a camera or value verdict if you need independent image-quality comparisons or a direct local price match. The manufacturer specifications establish hardware claims, not a universal winner or a cross-market price premium.
