If camera hardware is your first priority, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is the more camera-focused choice on paper; if you want Samsung’s built-in Privacy Display, consider the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Neither specification sheet proves which phone takes better photos or lasts longer in everyday use, so compare independent tests and local prices before buying. The S26 Ultra is Samsung’s top-tier S-series model for this comparison, not the only 2026 Galaxy S-series option.

These are manufacturer specifications, not a controlled head-to-head test. The camera megapixel counts and focal-length coverage describe different hardware approaches; they do not establish image quality across daylight, low light, portraits, moving subjects, or video.
Which phone is better for photography?
Choose Xiaomi if the camera hardware is your starting point
Xiaomi pairs a 50MP 1-inch main sensor with a 200MP telephoto covering 75–100mm equivalent focal lengths and a 50MP 14mm ultra-wide. That setup makes the 17 Ultra a compelling candidate for someone who wants a large-format main camera and telephoto coverage within a dedicated camera system. It is a reason to investigate the phone, not proof that it produces better pictures than Samsung.

Choose Samsung if you want two stated optical telephoto steps
The S26 Ultra lists separate 3x and 5x optical telephoto cameras, alongside its 200MP main and 50MP ultra-wide cameras. That gives it a different set of stated camera options from Xiaomi’s 75–100mm variable-range telephoto. For your own priorities, compare independent sample images at the focal lengths you actually use, including indoor and low-light shots, portraits, moving people, and video. The specifications alone do not show which phone handles those situations better.
Privacy Display is Samsung’s clearest differentiator
Samsung says the S26 Ultra introduces a built-in Privacy Display. It is relevant if you often read messages, documents, or other personal information in public and want a phone feature intended for that setting. Samsung’s announcement establishes the feature’s presence, but it does not provide a measured comparative privacy advantage over Xiaomi. Samsung’s S26 announcement

Samsung also described its S26-series AI design aim as making AI feel effortless and work quietly in the background. That is the company’s stated intention, not an independent finding that its software is better or easier to use than Xiaomi’s. Samsung Global Newsroom

Battery: capacity is not the same as battery life
The global Xiaomi 17 Ultra specification lists 6000mAh typical capacity, while Samsung lists 5000mAh for the S26 Ultra. These capacity figures are not a direct endurance test: they do not establish which phone lasts longer under the same workload, settings, network, or screen use. Xiaomi notes that its stated capacity is typical, and independent coverage notes that global and Chinese Xiaomi models differ in battery capacity. TechRadar reported eight hours of screen-on time in its Xiaomi 17 Ultra review sample. That is one reviewer’s result for that sample and test experience, not a guarantee for other owners or a comparison with the S26 Ultra. TechRadar review If battery life will decide your purchase, look for tests that compare both exact models under the same protocol rather than choosing from capacity alone.
Which Galaxy S-series model should you compare?
The S26 Ultra is the appropriate Samsung comparator if you are considering the company’s top S26 model and want the flagship-level camera and feature comparison. Samsung’s 2026 lineup also includes the Galaxy S26 and S26+, so buyers who prefer a different size or price tier should compare those models on their own merits rather than treating “Galaxy S-series” as one phone. - Compare current local prices for the same storage tier, and check whether the listed configuration is actually in stock.
- Confirm carrier-band compatibility, warranty coverage, and which model variant the seller is offering.
- Check software-support commitments for both phones in your country; a globally comparable support-policy answer is not established here.
- If you are considering a Xiaomi photography kit, verify its separate cost, contents, local stock, and compatibility.
How to decide
- Lean toward Xiaomi 17 Ultra if its published camera configuration is the one you want to investigate, especially the 1-inch main sensor and 75–100mm-equivalent telephoto. Confirm your choice with independent side-by-side image and video evidence.
- Lean toward Galaxy S26 Ultra if Samsung’s built-in Privacy Display is important to how you use a phone, or if the S26 Ultra’s stated camera arrangement better matches your shooting habits.
- Choose by battery only after comparing like-for-like tests. The listed capacities and a single Xiaomi reviewer’s screen-on result cannot settle comparative endurance.
- Consider Galaxy S26 or S26+ if you are not committed to Samsung’s top model; compare the specific model, configuration, and local price you would actually buy.
