The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is a strong choice for people who want broad camera coverage in one phone: four rear cameras span ultra-wide through 5x optical reach, and the main camera has a variable aperture. Reviewers praised its camera versatility and performance, but also flagged its high cost, battery trade-offs and software. It makes the most sense if you will use those extra focal lengths and controls—not simply because you want a premium Android phone.
What the Xiaomi 14 Ultra offers for photography
Xiaomi specifies four 50MP rear cameras, each with a different field of view: a 23mm main camera, 75mm telephoto, 120mm periscope and 12mm ultra-wide. The main camera uses a one-inch Sony LYT-900 sensor, optical stabilization and a stepless f/1.63–f/4.0 aperture. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent lab measurements. Xiaomi also claims up to 14EV of dynamic range and notes that performance can vary. Xiaomi’s global specifications describe the system; Xiaomi Singapore’s specifications list the 50MP sensors and macro capabilities, which can vary by region.
The practical appeal is having several useful perspectives without relying entirely on digital zoom: expansive scenes with the ultra-wide, everyday framing with the main camera, and tighter portraits or distant subjects with the telephoto pair. Android Authority praised the camera flexibility and portraits, while Stuff praised the quad-camera system and reported strong low-light detail from the main camera. These are reviewer findings from 2024, not guarantees for every scene.

More lenses do not mean every focal length produces the same result. Stuff observed that the 5x camera could look softer and have lower dynamic range than the main camera. Consider that a specific reviewer’s observation rather than a universal defect. If you mainly use the main camera, this difference may matter less than it would to someone who frequently shoots at long range.

Video capabilities
Stuff reported that the phone can record 4K at 60 frames per second across its cameras, while Dolby Vision recording is limited to the main camera. If you regularly switch lenses while filming or rely on a particular video format, check the exact camera and mode supported in your region’s device software before buying.
Photography Kit: useful accessory, not part of the phone
Xiaomi says, “The Xiaomi 14 Ultra Photography Kit must be purchased separately.” The official product page lists a USB-C connection and a 67mm filter adaptor; Stuff describes a protective case and detachable grip. Included parts and bundles may differ by market, so confirm the exact contents with the seller. The grip and physical controls are most relevant if you actively shoot and want a more camera-like hold; they add little value if you take occasional snapshots. A 67mm filter is worth considering only if it fits the official adaptor.

What reviewers liked—and what they did not
The independent reviews provide useful but time-bounded impressions. Android Authority says its review followed five days of testing and that Xiaomi supplied the device. Stuff says it used the phone as its main device for several weeks. Neither review is a current controlled head-to-head test.

| Area | Reported strength | Reported trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Photography | Android Authority praised flexibility and portraits; Stuff praised the camera setup and main-camera low-light detail. | Stuff observed softness and reduced dynamic range from the 5x camera versus the main camera. |
| Performance | Both reviewers praised performance. | Android Authority reported heat under stress. |
| Battery | No standout battery advantage was established in these reviews. | Android Authority called endurance so-so; Stuff said some competing flagships lasted slightly longer. |
| Software and price | The phone offers a photography-focused feature set. | Android Authority noted pre-installed software; both reviews raised cost as a drawback. |
Price and availability: treat launch figures as history
Android Authority’s April 2024 review listed £1,299 / €1,499 for the global 16GB/512GB configuration and said there was no US release at that time. Those are historical launch-market statements, not current prices, stock or availability. The current price, software-support period, warranty, network-band compatibility and included accessories depend on market and seller; verify them locally before purchase.

Who should buy the Xiaomi 14 Ultra?
It is a better fit if
- You often shoot across ultra-wide, standard and telephoto perspectives, rather than relying on one camera.
- You value portraits, low-light main-camera detail, or the ability to reach distant subjects with a dedicated periscope camera.
- You will use the optional Photography Kit’s grip or controls enough to justify buying it separately.
Look elsewhere if
- Battery endurance matters more to you than camera range.
- You rarely take photos and would not use the extra cameras or optional controls.
- You dislike the software experience or find a competing phone’s camera results sufficient at a lower local price.
How to compare it with another flagship
Do not decide on megapixels or the number of lenses alone. Compare camera consistency across focal lengths, low-light and portrait results, long-zoom quality, video modes, battery endurance, charging, handling, software preferences, local price and warranty support. The cited reviews offer observations, but they do not establish a controlled or current winner across competing phones.
For a value decision, weigh the actual price and support available where you live against how often you will use the 75mm and 120mm cameras or the optional grip. If those features will shape how you shoot, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s specialization has a clear purpose. If not, its price and battery compromises are harder to justify.
