After Xbox announced major Game Pass changes in October 2025, players and news outlets reported that the membership page used to manage or cancel subscriptions was loading slowly or showing errors. That supports describing a reported page failure—not claiming that a verified wave of cancellations caused it. No cancellation total was confirmed in the coverage reviewed.
Did Game Pass’s cancellation page crash?
There were contemporaneous reports of trouble accessing the membership page after the October 2025 changes. Windows Central said its own attempt to load the cancellation page struggled. TechRadar also described errors when its writer tried to cancel. Users quoted by Windows Central said they were trying to downgrade or cancel, including one who wrote, “Their site is 100% getting overloaded right now from people like me trying to downgrade or cancel.”
Those accounts establish reported loading problems around the announcement. They do not establish how many people canceled, that cancellations were widespread, or that cancellation traffic caused the errors. Microsoft cancellation statistics confirming those claims were not reported.
What changed in the 2025 price increase?
Windows Central reported that US Game Pass Ultimate went from $19.99 to $29.99 per month in the October 2025 change—a 50% increase at that time. The new Ultimate package also included Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics, according to contemporaneous coverage. Those dollar figures describe the 2025 change; they are not verified current US prices.

The current US Xbox Game Pass plan page showed dollar placeholders rather than usable prices when checked for this update, so a current US monthly price cannot be stated reliably here. Check the Xbox plan page for the market and account you intend to use before comparing costs.
Prices have also changed differently by market. In an April 21, 2026 announcement for France, Xbox Wire listed Ultimate at €20.99 per month, down from €26.99, and PC Game Pass at €12.99, down from €14.99. Those are French-market prices, not prices to apply to the US or other regions.

How the current Game Pass plans differ
Xbox currently lists Essential, Premium, Ultimate, and PC Game Pass on its US plan page. The features below are the plan descriptions shown there; availability can vary by plan, region, and platform.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Plan | Games and releases | Platform and extras | Monthly cloud-play allowance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | 50+ games; no day-one releases | See Xbox plan page for platform details and regional availability | 5 hours |
| Premium | 200+ games; Xbox-published games join within one year | See Xbox plan page for platform details and regional availability | 10 hours |
| Ultimate | 500+ games; new games on day one | EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics | 15 hours |
| PC Game Pass | 300+ PC games; day-one releases | PC access and EA Play; cloud gaming is not included | Not included |
The cloud-hour limits are scheduled to begin in November 2026, not as part of the October 2025 price announcement. Xbox says the change is intended to manage cloud gaming costs as usage grows, and estimates that it will affect 4% of Game Pass subscribers. That 4% is Microsoft’s estimate, not an independently measured outcome. See Xbox Wire’s September 3, 2026 announcement for the stated rationale and timing.

What to check before downgrading
Compare the monthly price shown for your region with the specific benefits you use, rather than choosing by tier name alone. In particular, check:
- Whether day-one releases matter to you: Essential does not include them; Premium’s Xbox-published games arrive within one year, while Ultimate and PC Game Pass list day-one releases.
- Which games you can play: Xbox lists different library sizes by plan, and availability can vary by region and platform.
- Where you play: PC Game Pass is for PC and does not include cloud gaming, while the other listed plans have stated cloud-hour allowances beginning in November 2026.
- Whether Ultimate’s bundled EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics are benefits you would otherwise use.
- The price displayed for your market and account. The US page’s prices were not verifiable in this update, and the French prices announced in April 2026 should not be generalized to other countries.
