Yes—Xbox Game Pass can work on handhelds, but the way you play depends on the device and game. You can install supported PC games on Windows handhelds, stream supported games with Xbox Cloud Gaming, or stream games from your own Xbox console with Remote Play. Some Xbox Play Anywhere games also carry eligible progress and entitlements between supported Xbox and PC devices. None of these options means every Game Pass title runs on every handheld.

Xbox describes the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X as handheld gaming PCs with access to Game Pass, including game downloads, cloud streaming and Remote Play. Which handhelds can use Game Pass?
Windows handheld gaming PCs
On a Windows handheld such as the ROG Xbox Ally or Ally X, you can install a supported PC game or use cloud streaming and Remote Play where available. Local installation is not a guarantee of offline play: check the title’s license, launcher behavior and requirements before travelling without internet. Xbox Wire’s December 19, 2025 guide lists the ROG Xbox Ally, ROG Xbox Ally X, Logitech G Cloud and Razer Edge among handhelds for cloud gaming. Device support and availability can change, so confirm the current list and regional access on Xbox’s Cloud Gaming page.

Steam Deck
Xbox Wire described Steam Deck support as in beta in its December 19, 2025 guide. The guide’s cloud-play setup uses Steam Deck desktop mode to install Microsoft Edge, then opens Xbox.com/play. This is a browser-based setup, not native, full official handheld-app support; recheck Xbox’s current guidance before following those steps. Xbox Wire’s handheld guide
Other supported devices
Xbox’s Cloud Gaming FAQ also lists Windows PCs, Apple and Android phones and tablets, Xbox consoles, selected LG, Samsung and VIDAA TVs, Amazon Fire TV devices, and select Meta Quest headsets. The supported-device and region lists are subject to change. Xbox Cloud Gaming FAQ

What you need for each option
For Xbox Cloud Gaming
- An active Essential, Premium or Ultimate subscription, plus a supported game in a supported region. Xbox says selected free-to-play cloud games can instead be played with a free Microsoft account in supported regions.
- A supported device and an internet connection. Xbox’s FAQ gives 10 Mbps downstream as a minimum; some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality, and Xbox recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Xbox Wire’s December 2025 guide recommends at least 20 Mbps for a stable connection and suggests wired Ethernet where available, 5 GHz Wi-Fi or capable 5G. These are service guidelines, not guarantees of latency or image quality.
- A compatible controller connected by Bluetooth or USB, unless the game supports touch controls. Touch controls are available in selected games.
- A supported browser such as Edge, Chrome or Safari if playing through a browser.

For local PC game installs
- A compatible Windows handheld, an Xbox account and access to the PC version of the specific game.
- Enough free storage for the game and updates.

For Xbox Remote Play
- A supported device and a game that supports the feature.
- An Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S with remote features enabled and either powered on or in Sleep mode.
- An internet connection or mobile data. Your carrier may charge for data use; Xbox says online console multiplayer through Remote Play requires a separately sold Game Pass subscription. Xbox Remote Play guidance
What Game Pass on a handheld costs
There are two separate costs to consider: the handheld itself and the subscription required for the play method and game you choose. The figures below are not interchangeable: Xbox Wire’s December 2025 guide and Xbox’s currently surfaced plan information describe different cloud limits, and exact current monthly prices were not available in the current US result.

Choose local installation when connectivity is the concern
A Windows handheld can install supported PC games, which reduces dependence on continuous cloud streaming. It also consumes storage and still depends on the game’s hardware requirements. If offline play matters, verify the specific game’s license and launcher behavior; a local install alone does not establish that a title will work offline.

Choose cloud streaming when the device and network fit
Cloud Gaming avoids downloading a full PC game, but it depends on the title being cloud-enabled and on Xbox supporting your device and region. Use the 10 Mbps FAQ minimum as a floor, not a promise of a smooth session; Xbox’s more conservative guidance is 20 Mbps, preferably over 5 GHz Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet where available.

Choose Remote Play if you want to use your own console
Remote Play streams from your Xbox console rather than from Xbox’s cloud catalog. It therefore requires the console to be configured and available, as well as a supported client device and suitable connection.
