Who are the x402 Foundation members? Its July 14, 2026 operational-launch announcement named 40 organizations: 17 Premier, 18 General, and 5 Associate members. But that is a dated launch roster, not the latest total: on October 1, the Foundation reported more than 50 active members without publishing their full names.

Is the x402 Foundation still made up of 40 members?

No. The 40-name figure describes the July operational-launch snapshot. In an announcement dated October 1, 2026, the Foundation said its executive director would lead “more than 50 active members.” That later announcement did not name the additional organizations or provide an updated tier-by-tier roster, so the expanded list cannot be established from the published count alone. The October 1 announcement is the latest membership count cited here.

Date and stage Published count or list What it establishes
April 2, 2026: launch intent Organizations expressing initial intent and support A different group and stage—not a later membership ledger. April announcement
July 14, 2026: operational launch 40 named organizations with three tier labels The complete named launch snapshot presented above. July announcement
October 1, 2026: executive director announcement More than 50 active members; no full list or tier breakdown A later total, but not a complete named roster. October announcement

The April supporters should not be added to the July names to estimate the later roster. The April release described initial intent and support, while the July announcement identified operational-launch members.

What the Foundation says x402 is—and what membership means

The Foundation describes x402 as an open, neutral standard for internet-native payments. Its stated use cases include payments for digital services such as API monetization, agentic commerce, and paywalled content; it says the protocol supports EVM-compatible chains, Solana, and more. These are the Foundation’s descriptions, not independent verification of implementation, security, or adoption. The Foundation homepage provides its overview.

A membership roster is not the same thing as a list of protocol maintainers. The Foundation’s leadership page assigns marketing, business oversight, and budget decisions to the Governing Board, while technical oversight belongs to the Technical Steering Committee (TSC). It says the Governing Board does not make technical decisions except through work with the TSC. See the Foundation’s governance description.
