Yes—but there’s an important distinction: to earn the exploration Legacy Point, one character must explore the entire world map. Once earned, Legacy Points are shared across eligible non-Hardcore characters on your Battle.net account, and each character chooses its own perks.
How exploration counts toward Legacy Points
Blizzard’s September 23, 2026 Legacy System announcement lists “Explore the entire world map on the same character” as one of two Adventure Legacy Challenges. Completing a challenge earns one Legacy Point, so you cannot combine partial map exploration from several characters to complete this challenge.
The announcement describes 65 Legacy Challenges across six categories. The published totals are:

Each completed challenge awards one point, according to Blizzard. The other Adventure challenge is completing the Lord Valthalak dungeon set questline. These are figures and requirements from Blizzard’s announcement, not independently verified live-game behavior.

What account-wide means for your characters
Legacy Points are shared account-wide among non-Hardcore characters. That does not mean every character automatically receives the same perks: each character spends from the shared pool on that character’s own selections, and different characters can choose different perks.
Blizzard identifies three perk areas: Professions, Adventure, and Resourcefulness. Its announcement says all character advantages can be unlocked on one character, so leveling alts is encouraged but is not required to benefit from the system. At launch, the stated spending cap is 16 points per character.

How to unlock and open the Legacy System
Blizzard says most players will unlock the system when their first character reaches level 25. The announcement also lists two alternative unlock routes:
- Reach 150 in a non-gathering primary tradeskill.
- Explore the entire world map.
Once unlocked, open the Legacy System using its shield icon or the default Y key.

What changes for Hardcore characters
The account-wide rule has a stated Hardcore exception. Blizzard says collections and Legacy Points work across rulesets, but Hardcore progress can flow outward to other rulesets; progress from other rulesets does not flow back into Hardcore. Therefore, “account-wide” does not mean unrestricted two-way sharing for Hardcore characters.

WoW: Forever uses rulesets rather than the traditional realm-selection approach. Characters can group, run dungeons, and raid with players in the same ruleset, but cross-ruleset grouping is not supported. Shared Legacy Points are an account progression feature, not a shared social space across rulesets.
