World War Z: Aftermath lets players on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S play together in co-op. The original Nintendo Switch version cannot cross-play with those platforms. Cross-platform parties can include up to four players; players report joining through the party screen’s cross-play invite code, though the exact menu flow may vary.
Which platforms can play World War Z together?
Saber Interactive lists cross-play for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Focus Entertainment describes Aftermath as supporting four-player co-op with cross-play between consoles and PC, including Steam and Epic Games Store.

The Nintendo Switch version is the exception: Saber says it has no cross-play with other platforms. Its FAQ describes local play on Switch as separate play with other Switch consoles. Do not expect a Switch player to join a PC, PlayStation, or Xbox party. See Saber’s World War Z FAQ and Focus Entertainment’s Aftermath page for the publisher statements.
How to join a friend on another platform
The official FAQ confirms cross-play but does not document a step-by-step invite procedure. Players report using the cross-play invite code in the party screen: the host shares the code shown in an open party slot, and the friend enters it through their party interface. This is community-reported guidance, not an official instruction, and the exact labels or location may differ by platform or game version. Follow the current prompts in your game if they differ.

If the code is not accepted, verify that both players are on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox rather than Switch, then check the game’s current party prompts or contact Saber support. The invite-code method is described in a Steam Community discussion.
How many friends can join?
Aftermath supports up to four players in co-op, so one player can host a session with up to three friends. The four-player capacity is stated by Focus Entertainment.

Do you need a console subscription to play online?
Saber says online play on the relevant consoles requires the platform’s paid online subscription: PlayStation Plus for PlayStation, Xbox Live for Xbox, and Nintendo Switch Online for Switch. Its FAQ says missions and solo modes are available without that subscription. The FAQ does not state a comparable subscription requirement for PC.

Does cross-play include cross-progression?
No. Saber says Aftermath does not support cross-progression, so progress does not continuously sync between platforms. The FAQ says a one-time save transfer is possible through PROS; that is a transfer, not ongoing cross-platform syncing. See Saber’s FAQ for the stated limitation and transfer option.

Which World War Z version should you check before playing?
Saber lists World War Z and Aftermath on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store, as well as Amazon Luna. Its FAQ separately identifies the original game on Nintendo Switch and explicitly excludes Switch from cross-play with other platforms. Check the platform and edition before buying or arranging a session; “World War Z” availability does not mean every version can join the same cross-play party.
