To see what your character is doing, press M to open the map or L to open the quest log. The map gives you a snapshot of quests and tracked objectives; the quest log lets you choose which quests to track and inspect their status and type. Quest requirements and rewards vary by quest, feature, and expansion, so check the individual quest rather than assuming one rule applies everywhere.
How do I track quests and see their status?
- Press M to open the map and review quests and other tracked objectives. Use its legend and filters to interpret or show and hide kinds of content.
- Press L to open the quest log, select quests to track, and inspect their status. Hovering over a quest can show whether it is Repeatable, Important, or part of a Campaign.
Blizzard’s July 2024 quest UI guide lists map-marker categories including Campaign, Legendary, Repeatable, In Progress, Important, Meta, Local Story, and Turn In. Marker appearance and available filters help you distinguish a story step from a repeatable task or a quest ready to turn in.
Why can’t I pick up this quest?
There is no universal prerequisite recipe. A quest may depend on your character’s level, reputation, campaign progress, a feature unlock, or party eligibility. Check the quest’s own details and look for Important or Campaign markers that signal progression requirements.
Expansion-specific examples show why old requirements should not be treated as current rules. Blizzard’s Legion World Quest guide said those quests became available at level 110 after completing Uniting the Isles and reaching Friendly with five Broken Isles factions. By contrast, a July 2026 hotfix made certain Omnium Folio weekly prerequisites account-wide from Week 2, while still requiring the Sunstrider Omnium unlock questline on each alternate character. These are rules for their named content, not blanket rules for all quests.

Where do I see World Quest tasks, rewards, and time remaining?
Select the relevant zone on the map and inspect the World Quest tooltip. Blizzard’s guidance says it can show the required tasks, rewards, and remaining time. Use the live tooltip as the authority for the quest in front of you: older guides may describe conditions or rewards from content that has since changed or is no longer current.
Why is a quest different or unavailable when I’m grouped?
Party Sync aligns party members to a shared quest state and phase. Blizzard’s Party Sync preview says some quests a player has already completed can be replayed once per day for rewards appropriate to that player’s actual level. Repeatable quests, including dailies and World Quests, were excluded from replay in that preview. A quest may also become deactivated if the group no longer meets its requirements.

What rewards can quests give?
Rewards are specific to the quest and its content. For example, Blizzard’s Legion World Quest article listed gold, gear, profession reagents, pet charms, and faction reputation. A separate Shadowlands event example described its own reward package. Those are historical examples, not a promise about present-day quests; inspect the current quest details or tooltip before deciding whether to do it.
Is there a central progression tracker?
Blizzard’s returning-player guide describes Journeys as an Adventure Guide tab intended to consolidate progression such as Renown, Delves, and Prey, with availability tied to Midnight launching. Because the guide frames access as launch-dependent, check in-game whether Journeys is available to you. For ordinary active quest tracking, the map and quest log are the directly documented controls.
