World of Warcraft: Forever replaces the old realm-relative PvP ranking race with seasonal Rank Points and weekly rank ceilings. That makes progress more structured and removes the need to outscore other players on your realm, but it does not erase the grind: the current rank guide reports that Rank 14 is gated until week 10 or later. Whether that route fits your schedule depends on how much you play and how far you want to climb; the available sources do not establish a typical playtime or guarantee that every player will reach the top.
What changed in the PvP rank system?
In the old system, rank depended on your standing relative to other players on your realm. Forever instead uses personal Rank Point thresholds: you earn points to advance, and your rank is not determined by how many points other players have. Icy Veins describes this as replacing the old realm-comparison grind with seasonal progression. Read the current rank-system guide.
That distinction matters. You no longer need to win a weekly competition for a limited share of rank progress, but you still need to earn enough points and follow the system’s pacing to reach high ranks.

Rank Points advance your rank. The current Icy Veins guide says rank progress does not decay from week to week during a season, while Rank Points reset between seasons. It also reports a rising weekly maximum rank: its datamining-based table lists Rank 3 as the week-one maximum and Rank 14 at week 10 or later. These are the guide’s current reported caps, not a guaranteed schedule; datamined details can change.

The guide lists 24,750 total Rank Points for Rank 14. That is a threshold, not a promise of a particular number of hours or a confirmed season length. The guide does not establish a firm season duration, so there is no reliable basis here for calculating how many sessions a typical player needs.
What are the ranks and titles?
There are 14 ranks, with faction-specific titles. The path begins at Private for Alliance characters and Scout for Horde characters, and culminates at Grand Marshal for the Alliance and High Warlord for the Horde. The current guide’s Rank 14 threshold is 24,750 total Rank Points.

Do titles and PvP gear use the same progression?
No. Rank Points advance rank and unlock the associated title and vendor access. Honor is the currency used to buy PvP items and other material rewards. Earning or spending Honor does not use up Rank Points. Icy Veins’ rank guide distinguishes the two tracks.

Can you do PvP without choosing the PvP ruleset?
Yes. The Forever PvP overview says battlegrounds are available to players on other rulesets too. Choosing the PvP ruleset mainly affects open-world exposure: it automatically flags you for PvP in contested or enemy zones. If you want battlegrounds without that automatic open-world flagging, you do not have to choose the PvP ruleset. See Icy Veins’ PvP overview.

Is the rank grind still as bad as Classic?
It is a different kind of grind, not no grind. Removing realm-relative standings makes advancement more predictable and avoids having to beat other players’ point totals to move up. Seasonal resets and weekly ceilings still pace the climb, and the current guide places access to Rank 14 at week 10 or later. The sources do not provide a measured comparison of hours played, completion rates, or how many casual players reach the top title, so claims that the change makes Rank 14 easy for everyone would go beyond the evidence.

Blizzard’s official announcement describes earning Rank Points to move through familiar ranks and working toward High Warlord or Grand Marshal, with more ways to progress each week and seasonal goals. That supports a more structured path; it does not mean the top rank is immediate or free of sustained play. Blizzard’s announcement.
