Woody Lancaster won the 2026 Topsfield Fair giant-pumpkin weigh-off with a pumpkin the fair lists at 2,598 pounds, setting a new Topsfield Fair record. It topped the previous reported fair record—Alex Noel’s 2,507-pound pumpkin in 2025—by 91 pounds. The published result confirms a fair record, not a world record.
What happened at the 2026 Topsfield Fair weigh-off?
The 42nd All New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off was scheduled for opening day, Friday, October 2, 2026, at 4 p.m. in the Arena. The fair describes the contest as an opening-day tradition. Its official results list Lancaster in first place with a 2,598-pound pumpkin.
Before the event, the fair’s general manager, James O’Brien, told WBUR: “We may end up breaking a fairgrounds record, as well as maybe a world record.” That was a forecast. The result published by the fair confirms the fairgrounds milestone, but does not establish a world record.

How the new Topsfield Fair record compares with earlier winners
WBUR reported Alex Noel’s 2,507-pound pumpkin as the previous Topsfield Fair record in 2025. Lancaster’s 2026 entry is 91 pounds heavier. The fair’s historical archive lists Jamie Graham’s 2,480-pound pumpkin as the 2022 winner and prior fair record; the later 2025 and 2026 results supersede that mark.
The contest has a long local history. The fair says the All New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off began at Topsfield in 1984 and that entries must weigh at least 300 pounds. Its historical account credits Charlie Houghton’s 1,337.6-pound pumpkin in 2002 as the largest ever grown in the world at that time—a historical claim, not a current world-record standing. In 2012, Ron Wallace’s 2,009-pound pumpkin became the first one-ton pumpkin, according to the fair.

The fair’s history connects the sport’s development with Dill’s Atlantic Giant seeds and the New England Pumpkin Growers Association. The fair FAQ says giant-pumpkin seeds are sold in the Fruit & Vegetable Building. Seeds alone do not guarantee competition-size fruit.
Where visitors could see the winning pumpkin
The fair scheduled the winning pumpkin for display in the Fruit & Vegetable Building, and its FAQ said top entries would remain on display through the fair. The 2026 fair ran October 2–12, 2026; those dates have passed. Its schedule listed opening Friday hours as 4–10 p.m., with the weigh-off in that window, and the visitor FAQ listed parking at $15. These are 2026 details, not guidance for a future season; check the fair’s current schedule, display information, and parking details before visiting.
