Atlanta realtor and TikTok creator Adrienne Wilson says a $40 tip appeared on her $15.01 takeout order from Nuevo Laredo Cantina, bringing the reported total to $55.01. Wilson said Capital One flagged the charge and asked whether she meant to leave a 266% tip. The reports recount her account; they do not independently verify the transaction or how the tip was entered.
What Wilson says happened
In reports published October 1–2, 2026, Wilson, who posts as @yoadriennesellshomes, said she ordered soup to go and did not intend to tip. She said she marked an X on the receipt’s tip line, then later received a Capital One alert about the charge.

Wilson described the purchase as $15.01, with a $40 tip added for a total of $55.01. The $40 is about 266.5% of $15.01, which rounds to 266% when stated as a whole percentage. The Mary Sue reproduced her TikTok caption: “A 266% TIP?! 😳 I spent $15.01 and somehow a $40 tip was added, making my total $55.01. Thankfully Capital One flagged it, and after speaking with the restaurant manager, they agreed to refund the full amount of my order. Moral of the story: CHECK 👏🏽 YOUR 👏🏽 TRANSACTIONS 👏🏽 Because I definitely did not authorize THAT tip. 😭 Has this ever happened to you?”
She also said, “I came in on Sunday, I ordered soup, and I did a to-go order, which is why I did not leave a tip,” as quoted by The Mary Sue. Wilson said she returned to the restaurant, spoke with staff and the owner, and received a refund. The reports say the owner described the tip as an accident, while Wilson disagreed.

What is known—and what remains unclear
The reports agree on the figures and the broad outline of Wilson’s account: a $15.01 takeout purchase, a $40 tip, a bank alert, her objection, and a refund. But the reviewed coverage does not include the receipt, card transaction record, bank alert, or a direct statement from the restaurant or Capital One. One report explicitly says Wilson’s account had not been independently confirmed.
That means the available reporting does not establish how the tip was entered or whether anyone acted deliberately. It would be inaccurate to present the incident as proven fraud or to assign responsibility to an employee. Wilson’s account explains why the story drew attention, but the cause of the charge remains unresolved in the cited coverage.

What customers can take from the story
Wilson’s caption urged people to check their transactions. Reviewing payment notifications and card statements can help spot an unexpected charge, as she says happened in her case; an alert is not a guarantee that every error will be caught. If a restaurant charge looks wrong, check the receipt and transaction details, then contact the merchant and card issuer to ask about correction or dispute options.
