The Withings ScanWatch 2 is a traditional-looking analog watch with health sensors and a small grayscale display, rather than a smartwatch built around a large touchscreen. Its strongest appeal is that familiar design paired with long intervals between charges: Withings currently lists up to 35 days. The trade-offs are a compact interface, charging on an included dock, and health features whose availability and validation vary by region.

What the ScanWatch 2 is—and what it is not

Withings combines conventional watch styling with a compact PMOLED display and sensors for health and activity tracking. The watch face remains the visual focus; the 0.63-inch grayscale screen is for brief information and interactions, not a substitute for a phone-sized smartwatch interface. That distinction is central to deciding whether the hybrid format suits you.

The physical design uses a stainless-steel case, sapphire glass, and a stainless-steel crown. Withings lists 38 mm and 42 mm versions. The smaller version weighs 34.6 g and the larger 52.6 g, both without a wristband, so size and weight differ materially by variant. The company rates the watch for 5 ATM water resistance. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Withings’ ScanWatch 2 specifications

Size, display, and everyday fit

The screen is a 0.63-inch grayscale OLED with a listed density of 282 PPI. It can surface selected information, but its small area makes it a poor match for someone who wants to read lots of text, navigate many menus, or interact extensively from the wrist. If you prefer a largely analog appearance and only need concise watch data, that limitation may matter less.

Withings lists an altimeter, a high-dynamic-range accelerometer, and a 16-channel multi-wavelength PPG sensor among the hardware. The manufacturer also describes its TempTech24/7 system as combining a miniaturized heat-flux sensor with ambient and skin temperature readings, calibrated using heart-rate and accelerometer data. Those design details explain how the system is intended to work; they do not, by themselves, establish measurement accuracy. Withings’ ScanWatch 2 FAQ

Strap compatibility depends on the exact case variant. The current product page lists a 20 mm band for the selected 42 mm product; do not assume that any third-party band fits either size. Check the case version and its lug or band dimensions before buying a replacement. Withings’ ScanWatch 2 product page

Health and activity features, with important limits

Withings says ScanWatch 2 can record a single-lead ECG in 30 seconds, track heart rate and oxygen saturation, monitor daily temperature, assess breathing quality, record menstrual-cycle information, and track sleep duration and phases. It also counts elevation, walking, running, and swimming, and can automatically detect activities. Feature availability depends on regional regulation and clearance; Withings warns that some functions may be unavailable or may lack clinical validation in a user’s region. Check local availability rather than assuming every listed feature works everywhere. Withings’ feature and regional-availability information

The company says its ECG app enables atrial fibrillation detection through ECG readings and that its ECG functionality has FDA clearance. That does not make every sensor reading a diagnosis, nor does it establish that the feature is cleared in every country. Battery life and the charging trade-off

Battery claims have changed over the product’s life, so keep the dates attached to the figures. Withings’ August 31, 2023 launch announcement advertised 30 days; its current product page, accessed in 2026, specifies up to 35 days, and a September 2025 company announcement also described 35 days. “Up to” is a maximum, not a guarantee for every combination of settings and use. The current product page lists a two-hour charging time. Withings’ August 2023 launch announcement Current product specifications Withings’ September 2025 update

Charging requires taking the watch off and placing it on the included docking station, which uses a USB-C-compatible charging arrangement. Tom’s Guide reviewer reported charging twice between April 23 and July 3 during their own use, while noting that frequent screen use can increase battery drain. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a promised interval for other owners. The same reviewer called the charger nonstandard, a practical reason to keep track of the dock and check the exact model compatibility before seeking a replacement. Tom’s Guide’s ScanWatch 2 review

Basic tracking versus Withings+

Withings presents basic data access as free and Withings+ as a separate paid service for guidance, insights, and clinical services. Its September 2025 announcement described the Vitality Indicator as a Withings+ feature drawing on HRV, activity, temperature, oxygen saturation, respiratory rhythm, and sleep quality. That update also named the Health Assistant, Vitality score, and Cardio Check-Up among the subscription services. The company described a one-month free Withings+ subscription with purchase in that announcement; whether an offer applies now can depend on market and promotion. What published first-use impressions suggest

Tom’s Guide’s 2026 reviewer described a conventional analog look combined with health and fitness technology. They reported that sleep metrics broadly matched another device, with minor differences in sleep and wake timing, but found the watch bulkier than a sleek wearable. The reviewer also considered Withings’ Sleep Mat better suited specifically to sleep tracking. These observations describe one reviewer’s experience and preferences, not a universal result. Tom’s Guide’s review

That points to the main choice: the ScanWatch 2 is most compelling if you want a familiar watch appearance, health tracking, and fewer charging interruptions more than a broad touchscreen interface. If your priorities are a large interactive screen, a very slim wearable, or a device focused specifically on sleep, the hybrid format may be the wrong fit.

How to decide whether it suits you

  • Consider it if you prefer an analog-style face and want health and activity features without making a large smartwatch screen the centerpiece.
  • Look elsewhere if you want to read and respond to lots of information on the wrist, or strongly prioritize a slim profile.
  • Check before buying whether the health functions you care about are available and appropriately cleared in your region.
  • Plan for charging by keeping the included dock accessible; the watch must be off your wrist while charging.
  • Compare ownership costs by separating free basic data from paid Withings+ services and confirming current local terms.
  • Verify accessories against the exact 38 mm or 42 mm version, including band dimensions and dock compatibility.
