Yes: wired headphones are making a recent, measurable comeback in Circana’s sales tracking, but the data does not show that they have overtaken wireless models. Circana reported 3% growth in 2025 after five years of declines, followed by faster gains late in the year and in early 2026. True wireless remained the largest headphone form factor by dollars in 2025.
What the sales figures show
Circana’s Retail Tracking Service reported that wired headphone sales grew 3%—about $15 million—in 2025, ending a five-year run of declines. The increase gathered pace: sales rose 10% from July through December 2025, and revenue was up 20% during the first six weeks of 2026. These figures are reported in Circana’s February 25, 2026 article, “Wired Headphones Growth Is a Throwback to 2016”.
The figures support calling this a rebound in the market Circana tracks. They do not establish a worldwide trend or prove that growth will continue. Circana’s reported figures do not state the geographic scope in the available article excerpt, so they should not be treated as global totals.

Why wired headphones may be appealing again
Lower average prices
Circana reported 2025 average selling prices of about $13 for wired headphones and $99 for Bluetooth headphones. These are category averages, not current prices for every product. Circana points to affordability as a possible factor in the rebound, but the figures alone do not prove why buyers chose wired models.

Interest in familiar products
Circana also suggests renewed interest in throwback products may be contributing. That is an explanation offered by the source, not a confirmed account of what motivated individual purchases.
Wireless remains a major part of the market
In 2025, true wireless headphones accounted for 65% of all headphone dollars, according to Circana. That is a share of category spending, not a direct comparison of wired and wireless unit sales. It does show why a wired rebound should not be mistaken for wireless losing its leading position.

Separate figures from NIQ discuss broad global consumer technology and durable-goods purchases, including premium growth driven by wireless products. They do not independently establish a wired-headphone rebound, so they should not be combined with Circana’s headphone figures as if both measured the same market.

Would wired headphones suit your setup?
The practical choice depends less on a trend than on your device and listening habits. Wired headphones avoid dependence on a headphone battery, while wireless models avoid a cable and can offer more freedom of movement. Fit, microphone and control features, durability, and the features you actually use also vary by product.

- Check the connector. A 3.5 mm plug works only if your device has a compatible headphone jack. If it does not, a USB-C connection or an adapter may be an option.
- Confirm USB-C audio support. A USB-C port does not by itself guarantee that every wired headset or adapter will work. Check compatibility for the specific device and accessory.
- Consider daily convenience. A cable means less battery management, but it can snag or get in the way. Wireless headphones are more convenient when you want to move freely, but need charging.
- Compare the features you need. Microphone quality, playback controls, fit, and durability depend on the individual headphones; the market-wide sales data does not establish how particular models perform.
For a phone without a headphone jack, do not assume that any USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter will work. Verify the phone’s audio support and the adapter’s compatibility before buying.

The clearest conclusion is a recent sales rebound in Circana’s tracked category, not a wholesale return to wired listening. The figures do not establish a lasting reversal, a return of the headphone jack, or a representative explanation of buyer motivations. If wired headphones match your device and priorities, the renewed attention is a reason to consider them—not evidence that they are the right choice for everyone.
