Jason Gin’s Kraze HD7K project gave the disposable vape’s existing screen a Windows 95-inspired look; it did not install or run the full Windows 95 operating system. The distinction matters: the project is a display-theme modification built through reverse engineering, not a tiny PC hidden inside a vape.
What “Windows 95 on a vape” means
Gin’s project changes the imagery shown on the Kraze HD7K’s built-in color display. The Windows 95 reference describes the visual theme, not the software running the device. The vape’s own electronics and firmware remain responsible for operating the device; the project adds a different look to its screen.
Gin published the project account, “Dispo Adventures, Episode 1”, on April 20, 2024. The associated coverage likewise describes a theme or skin modification rather than a full operating-system port. See Hackster.io’s project overview.
Which vape and hardware were involved?
The examined device was a Kraze HD7K. Gin reports that a device in his area sold under the Raz TN9000 name appeared to share its internals, with differences in firmware and logo. That is the project author’s observation about those devices—not evidence that every unit under either name, or other disposable vapes, has the same hardware.

Reporting on the teardown describes this unit’s display and electronics as follows:
- Display: an 80 × 160-pixel color LCD, using an ST7735S controller and an SPI interface.
- Microcontroller: a Nations Technologies N32G031K8Q7-1 with a 48 MHz Arm Cortex-M0 core, 64 KB of internal flash, and 8 KB of SRAM.
- Additional storage: a reported 1 MB SPI flash chip.
These specifications describe the device covered by the teardown, not a standard configuration for disposable vapes generally. Hackster.io summarizes the examined hardware in its project coverage; Hackaday also reports display and controller details in its April 25, 2024 account.

How the display modification was investigated
The work involved examining communication between the microcontroller and display, inspecting firmware assets, and changing the images used for the screen theme. Hackaday reports that Gin used a logic analyzer to inspect display traffic during initialization. A logic analyzer can help reveal digital signals and their timing, but the reporting does not establish that a particular analyzer is essential to this kind of investigation.

Why this is not a general disposable-vape modification guide
The project documents one hobbyist’s work on one examined model. It does not show that other vapes use the same display, controller, firmware layout, or access method. Nor does it establish that modifying a vape is safe, lawful in every jurisdiction, or appropriate for consumers. Current sales availability for the Kraze HD7K and Raz TN9000 was not established by the cited coverage.
Teardown also carries hazards. Gin warns that leaked liquid can expose a person to nicotine and that short circuits involving the lithium-ion cell can cause burns or property damage. His stated qualification is: “This should only be attempted if you are familiar with handling lithium-ion batteries and the safety implications that they pose.” Read the warning in Gin’s project account; it is not a guarantee that disassembly can be made safe.
