Windows 12 is not a confirmed Microsoft product. Recent Microsoft Q&A answers say Microsoft has not announced Windows 12, a release date, or hardware requirements. That does not prove Windows 12 will never exist; it means there is no reliable launch plan to use for a purchase decision as of September 27, 2026.
Is Microsoft planning to release Windows 12?
The available public evidence does not establish a Windows 12 announcement or roadmap. Recent answers on Microsoft Q&A state that Microsoft has not officially announced Windows 12. Those answers are community and moderator responses rather than a formal Microsoft product-roadmap document, so they should be read as the status of publicly announced information at the time they were posted.
One Microsoft Q&A volunteer moderator, identified as Engineer Khalili, wrote: “Microsoft has not as much as mentioned anything at all about Windows 12. It remains an internet myth.” That is a moderator’s characterization, not a corporate declaration that Windows 12 can never be released.

A December 2025 answer from a Microsoft External Staff moderator likewise said Microsoft had not released an official Windows 12 statement or roadmap and pointed to ongoing Windows 11 development. It describes the situation at that date, not a permanent promise about every future Windows release.

When will Windows 12 come out?
No confirmed Windows 12 release date or timeframe is established by the reviewed Microsoft Q&A answers. Dates repeated in rumors, videos, social posts or retailer listings should not be treated as launch information unless Microsoft publishes them through an official announcement.
For later confirmation, check Microsoft’s official Windows blog and Microsoft’s own Windows announcements. A product page, system image, licensing information or published support policy would be stronger evidence than a speculative “expected release” date.

What will the Windows 12 requirements be?
Microsoft has not published official Windows 12 hardware requirements in the available evidence. There is therefore no defensible processor list, memory minimum, storage minimum, firmware requirement or compatibility test that can be presented as a Windows 12 purchasing standard.

Should you buy a computer now or wait?
If you need a PC now
Use confirmed Windows 11 compatibility as your baseline. Match the machine to your workload, then check its memory and storage configuration, manufacturer support, warranty and total price. This is practical advice for buying a Windows 11 computer today; it is not a guarantee of future Windows 12 support.

- Confirm that the advertised edition and hardware fully support Windows 11.
- Choose specifications for the applications you will use rather than for a rumored operating system.
- Review the manufacturer’s support period, drivers and warranty terms.
- Keep the receipt and documentation in case Microsoft later publishes different compatibility rules.
If you can wait
Wait for a formal Microsoft announcement rather than paying extra for an unverified “Windows 12-ready” label. A vendor cannot substantiate compatibility with requirements Microsoft has not published.
How to evaluate “Windows 12-ready” claims
- Look for a Microsoft source. Require an official Windows announcement or support document, not only a retailer description.
- Separate current compatibility from future claims. A computer can be Windows 11-compatible without being certified for an unannounced release.
- Ask for the exact basis of the claim. The seller should identify published requirements or a manufacturer support statement.
- Compare the price without the label. If the machine is worth buying for its Windows 11 performance, support and warranty, assess it on those confirmed factors.
What should buyers compare today?
There are no real Windows 12 models or editions to compare. For a present-day Windows computer, compare the following:
Rank #4
- EFFORTLESS EVERYDAY PERFORMANCE: Powered by Intel Celeron N4020 processor and Windows 11 Home system, delivering reliable, low-power efficiency for daily tasks like document editing, email, online classes, and web browsing

- Display, battery and portability for a laptop
- Manufacturer support, driver availability and warranty
- Total cost, including required accessories or upgrades
A listing for a “Windows 11 laptop” describes a current Windows 11 purchase. It should not be relabeled as Windows 12-ready.
Bottom line on the “revolutionary” Windows 12 claim
The claim that a revolutionary Windows 12 is the operating system users need runs ahead of the evidence. As of September 27, 2026, the reviewed Microsoft Q&A material does not confirm that Windows 12 has been announced, scheduled or given hardware requirements. Buy for verified Windows 11 support and your actual needs, and revisit the decision only when Microsoft publishes concrete Windows 12 information.
