Recent reporting describes a way to set up Windows 11 with a local account: on the Microsoft-account screen, click the smaller Learn more link, then complete the local-account prompts. The click opens the route; it does not finish setup by itself. The method was reported on a fresh, non-Insider installation, so it is not guaranteed to appear or work on every device or Windows build.
How to try the local-account route during setup

Continue Windows 11 setup until you reach the screen asking you to sign in with a Microsoft account.

Look for the smaller Learn more link on that screen and click it. Recent PC Gamer reporting says this link opens a route to create a local account.

Follow the prompts to create the local account. The reported flow includes setting a password and answering security questions, then continue through the remaining setup steps.

The phrase “one click” describes the reported way to reveal the local-account route, not completing Windows setup in one click. Microsoft’s official guidance on accounts does not document this particular link as a supported bypass.
What if “Learn more” is missing or behaves differently?
The reported result comes from a fresh, non-Insider installation; it does not establish that the link is available on every Windows 11 device, build, or setup configuration. If you do not see it, or the link leads somewhere else, use the options displayed in your setup rather than assuming a command-based workaround will work. Workarounds involving commands or installation media have varied. A Rufus-prepared USB installer is a separate reported workflow, not part of the one-click route; Microsoft provides Windows 11 download options.

What choosing a local account changes
Microsoft describes a local account as specific to one device. It can sign in without an internet connection, but its settings, files, and apps are limited to that device. A Microsoft account uses an email address and password, connects Windows to Microsoft services, and can sync settings and files across devices. Microsoft recommends a Microsoft account for service integration, security, and sync benefits. See Microsoft’s account guidance.

You can change account type after setup
Microsoft documents switching account types in Settings > Accounts > Your info. For a local account, select Sign in with a Microsoft account instead. For a Microsoft-account user, select Sign in with a local account instead; that flow asks for a username, password, and password hint.

Windows 11 release context
Microsoft’s Windows 11 download page identifies version 26H2 as the current release. Its September 22, 2026 OOBE cumulative update, KB5128942, applies to versions 24H2, 25H2, and 26H2. Microsoft says the update downloads and installs automatically during out-of-box experience (OOBE) when an internet connection is available; the page’s change log added 26H2 on September 29, 2026. Those release and servicing details do not show that KB5128942 introduced, removed, or guarantees the Learn more route. See Microsoft’s KB5128942 notes.
