Windows 11 crossed 70% of Steam’s combined user base in June 2026, reaching 70.44%. Valve’s September 2026 survey put Windows 11 64-bit at 71.34% of all participating Steam users.
What share of Steam users run Windows 11?
In Valve’s September 2026 Steam Hardware & Software Survey, Windows 11 64-bit accounted for 71.34% of combined Steam users, an increase of 0.37 percentage points from the previous month. The combined figure includes users on Windows, Linux, and macOS.
Viewed among Windows systems only, Windows 11’s share was 75.08% that month. These figures use different denominators: 71.34% is of all surveyed Steam users, while 75.08% is of surveyed Windows users.

When did Windows 11 pass 70% on Steam?
The milestone came in June 2026, when Windows 11 reached 70.44% of combined Steam users. Windows Central reported the crossing on July 2, 2026, citing Valve’s June survey. The September result shows the share had risen further, to 71.34%.

How does Windows 11 compare with other operating systems?
Valve’s September 2026 combined-user figures were:

Within the Windows-only view, Windows 11 had 75.08% and Windows 10 had 24.85%. That comparison does not use the combined-user denominator in the table.

What the Steam survey does—and does not—show
Valve describes participation as optional and anonymous. The results represent participating Steam customers, not a census of all PC gamers or all PCs. Steam users are a particular audience, so the figures should not be treated as Windows 11’s share of the wider PC market.
The survey shows operating-system distribution and month-to-month change; it does not establish why individual users upgraded. Windows 10’s approaching end of support has been discussed as context for migration, but the reported figures do not measure a causal effect.
