Windows 11 is the clear leader among operating systems reported in Steam’s August 2026 Hardware & Software Survey: Windows 11 64-bit accounts for 70.97% of surveyed systems, compared with 22.90% for Windows 10 64-bit. That is a 48.07-percentage-point gap, but Windows 10 remains in use on nearly one in four systems represented.
How many Steam gamers use Windows 11?
Valve’s Steam Hardware & Software Survey for August 2026 reports Windows 11 64-bit at 70.97% in its combined Windows, macOS, and Linux table. The figure describes surveyed Steam systems; it is not a count of unique players or a census of everyone who games on a PC.
Windows 11 versus Windows 10 on Steam
| Operating system | August 2026 share | Change from previous month |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 11 64-bit | 70.97% — Valve/Steam, August 2026 | +0.71 percentage points — Valve/Steam, month over month |
| Windows 10 64-bit | 22.90% — Valve/Steam, August 2026 | -0.40 percentage points — Valve/Steam, month over month |
Windows 11’s share is about 3.1 times Windows 10’s, and the gap is 48.07 percentage points. These figures are shares of surveyed systems, not estimates of how many individual people use each version.

Yes. Windows 10 64-bit accounts for 22.90% of reported systems in the August survey. It is a substantial minority even as its month-over-month share falls by 0.40 percentage points. The survey supports a picture of coexistence: Windows 11 leads decisively, while Windows 10 remains widely represented.

What the survey says about Windows overall
Windows as a whole accounts for 93.95% of the combined operating-system table in August 2026, up 0.28 percentage points month over month. macOS is 2.14%, down 0.18 points, and Linux is 3.90%, down 0.11 points. These are Valve/Steam survey shares for that month.
What the percentages can—and cannot—tell you
Valve says, “Participation in the survey is optional, and anonymous.” The company says the information helps it make decisions about technology investments and products. Because participation is optional, the percentages should be read as a snapshot of systems represented in the survey, not as a definitive measurement of all Steam users or all PC gamers. The figures also do not establish why someone uses one Windows version rather than another.

Does Steam’s 32-bit Windows cutoff affect Windows 10 users?
Not in the broad way that question might suggest. Steam Support says, “As of January 1, 2026, Steam stopped supporting systems running 32-bit versions of Windows.” Its notice identifies Windows 10 32-bit as the only 32-bit Windows version then supported, and says it represented 0.01% of systems reported through the Steam Hardware Survey — Valve/Steam, 2026. That cutoff concerns the tiny 32-bit segment; it should not be confused with the 22.90% share for Windows 10 64-bit.
