First identify which problem you have: the taskbar clock and date are missing, the calendar and notification flyout will not open, or the flyout opens but shows no events. Windows provides ways to open the panel and a setting that can hide the clock and date. Microsoft’s cited guidance does not give a repair sequence for a flyout that stays unresponsive or opens without events.
Open the calendar and notification flyout
Microsoft documents these ways to open the calendar and notification center flyout:
- Select the clock or notification bell on the taskbar.
- Press Windows+N.
- On a touch device, swipe from the edge of the screen.
These are alternative access methods, not guaranteed fixes. If none opens the panel, the cited Microsoft guidance does not identify a cause or prescribe a recovery procedure. Microsoft’s taskbar guidance

If the taskbar clock or date is missing
Check whether the time and date display has been turned off: open Settings > Personalization > Taskbar and look for Show time and date in the system tray. Microsoft documents that this option can be switched on or off. Its exact availability may depend on the Windows version and rollout state.

If the flyout opens but shows no events
An empty calendar flyout is different from a missing notification. The cited Microsoft support material does not specify a fix for events absent from the calendar panel, nor does it establish that a particular app, account, update, or Windows component is responsible. Notification settings should not be treated as a documented way to restore calendar events.
If alerts are missing instead
For absent app alerts, review Windows notification settings and the affected app’s own notification controls. Windows lets you manage notifications, including banners and sounds, and use Do Not Disturb to control interruptions. These options concern alerts and their presentation; Microsoft’s guidance does not say they restore events inside the calendar flyout. Microsoft’s notification and Do Not Disturb guidance
Check your Windows version when taskbar options differ
Some Windows 11 taskbar changes are released gradually, so an option may not appear on every device at the same time. Microsoft’s August 27, 2026 preview notes for KB5120998 and September 22, 2026 preview notes for KB5124006 describe phased changes with device-varying availability. Check your Windows version and build before assuming a taskbar control is universal.

What to do if the flyout still fails
If clicking the clock or bell, using Windows+N, or swiping on a touch device does not open the flyout—or it opens without events—the Microsoft sources cited here do not provide a specific repair procedure for those symptoms. They also do not establish a root cause. Avoid treating notification settings as a confirmed fix for an empty calendar panel.
