Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro editions reach the end of updates on October 13, 2026. That deadline does not apply to every 24H2 edition: Enterprise and Education remain supported until October 12, 2027. Check both your Windows version and edition, then use Windows Update to see whether Microsoft is offering your PC the upgrade to version 25H2.
When does Windows 11 24H2 support end?
Microsoft says Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro editions reach the end of updates on October 13, 2026. After that date, affected devices no longer receive monthly security and preview updates, known-issue fixes, time-zone updates, or technical support for that version. The PC does not stop working on the deadline, but it will no longer receive those updates and services. Microsoft’s KB5124010 notice states the Home and Pro date.
The deadline depends on edition as well as version. Microsoft’s release information lists these lifecycle dates:

These dates are from Microsoft’s Windows 11 release information, accessed October 12, 2026. If your PC is managed by an organization, confirm its edition and servicing plan with IT rather than applying the consumer deadline automatically.

How to check which Windows 11 version and edition you have
- Open Settings.
- Select System, then About.
- Look under Windows specifications for the edition and version. Confirm whether the version is 24H2 and whether the edition is Home, Pro, Enterprise, or Education.
Use both details to identify the applicable lifecycle date. The version alone is not enough to determine whether the October 13, 2026 deadline applies.
How to upgrade from Windows 11 24H2 to 25H2
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- If the device is ready and the upgrade is available, Windows Update displays Download and install for Windows 11, version 25H2.
- Select Download and install and follow the on-screen instructions. Save your work and restart when prompted at a convenient time.
Microsoft describes this check in its Windows 11 version 24H2 release-health guidance. The offer is device-specific: Microsoft says it appears when a device is ready, so not seeing it does not by itself prove the PC is unsupported. Try checking again later, and contact your organization’s IT administrator if the device is managed.

Will Windows 11 update automatically?
Microsoft says unmanaged Windows 11 Home and Pro devices on 24H2 receive the 25H2 update automatically. Users can choose when to restart or postpone the restart. This guidance is for that defined group; it is not a promise that every PC configuration or IT-managed device will update on the same schedule. If your device is managed, your organization may control update timing and availability.

Is Windows 11 26H1 the upgrade for a 24H2 PC?
No. Microsoft’s release information and 24H2 release-health guidance scope Windows 11 version 26H1 to new devices; it is not offered as an in-place feature update from 24H2 or 25H2 on existing devices. For a PC currently running 24H2, check Windows Update and follow the version it actually offers rather than assuming 26H1 is the upgrade route.
