Yes—Freelander is planned to launch in New Zealand in 2027, with the Freelander 8 as its first local model. That is an announced target, not a confirmed on-sale or delivery date. Dealer appointments, New Zealand pricing and specifications have not yet been announced.
What is confirmed about the NZ launch?
Chery Group’s 3 October 2026 international roadmap names Australia and New Zealand as priority markets for Freelander’s right-hand-drive expansion phase. It does not set a New Zealand entry date or name retailers. The more specific 2027 plan comes from CarExpert NZ’s 4 October 2026 report, which says the Freelander 8 is intended to lead the local launch.
Local timing remains approximate: no exact on-sale date, order-opening date or delivery estimate has been announced. Dealer appointments, pricing and New Zealand specifications are also pending. Treat 2027 as the reported launch target, not a delivery promise.

Which dealers will sell or service it?
No Freelander retailers have been named. Local reporting describes a plan to use established dealerships with premium showrooms and dedicated sales, service and aftersales training, but does not identify the businesses involved.

Do not assume that a current Land Rover retailer or a Chery, Omoda or Jaecoo outlet will sell or service the Freelander 8. The Land Rover New Zealand retailer and repairer locator currently lists Land Rover locations; it is not a Freelander appointment list.
What kind of vehicle and brand is Freelander?
Freelander is a JLR and Chery collaboration, not simply a current Land Rover model. In a 19 June 2024 announcement, JLR said the Freelander brand was licensed to the 50:50 Chery Jaguar Land Rover joint venture. The initial plan was to sell vehicles in China through a distinct retailer network, with global export intended over time.

The Freelander 8 unveiled for the Middle East is a market-specific version. Chery says its published figures apply to that model and specifications vary by market and trim. They do not establish New Zealand equipment, powertrain, charging or safety details. Wait for a local specification sheet before comparing overseas figures with a vehicle you might buy here.
What should you ask a dealer before paying a deposit?
