There is no confirmed plan to bring back Angry Birds Star Wars. A return remains possible, but it would require the necessary Star Wars rights and a business agreement; the official announcements reviewed do not say whether Rovio or SEGA is pursuing one. The strongest historical clue is a 2021 assessment, reported at the time, that a re-release was unlikely because of third-party licensing—not proof that a future deal is impossible.
What has Rovio actually announced?
Rovio has not announced a return, remake, remaster, or sequel to Angry Birds Star Wars in the official sources cited here. The latest relevant brand announcement is about licensing operations generally, not this game specifically.
On January 8, 2026, Rovio and SEGA said Angry Birds worldwide licensing activities would be unified under SEGA’s transmedia licensing operations. The announcement describes long-term investment in the broader Angry Birds brand, but does not mention a Star Wars game or confirm that Star Wars rights have been renewed. Why a return is possible but uncertain
The specific obstacle identified in historical reporting is third-party licensing. Angry Birds Star Wars was reported to have been removed from app stores in 2019. In a 2021 development update, Rovio brand director Steve Porter reportedly said a re-release was unlikely because of third-party licensing. That is a dated assessment, not evidence that Disney or Lucasfilm rejected a renewal, that the license has permanently expired, or that a future agreement cannot be reached. Historical game and delisting information
Rovio’s move into SEGA’s broader licensing framework and continued activity across the Angry Birds franchise may provide context, but neither establishes that the Star Wars rights are available or that a deal is being pursued. The current rights status is not established by the cited official announcements.

What “bringing it back” could mean
These are distinct possibilities, and none is confirmed in the sources cited here:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Restore the original mobile game: Make the legacy release available again. This would require the relevant rights and support for current mobile platforms.
- Release a remaster or remake: Update the original game or rebuild it. That would still require rights clearance, as well as a development and release commitment.
- Make a sequel: Develop a new game in the same crossover. No sequel has been announced.
- Create a different Angry Birds and Star Wars collaboration: A new crossover could differ from the original game, but no such project has been announced.
For any of these to become more than speculation, readers would need an official announcement that identifies the project and its release plans. A general brand licensing deal is not enough to establish that a particular Star Wars game is returning.

What current Angry Birds activity does—and does not—show
Rovio, SEGA, and Prime Focus Studios announced production of The Angry Birds Movie 3 on June 6, 2024. Rovio’s January 2026 licensing announcement listed a theatrical date of December 23, 2026. This is evidence of ongoing activity around the broader franchise, not a new Angry Birds Star Wars game. Rovio’s film production announcement
Rovio’s 2024 announcement reported that the first Angry Birds movie opened at number one in 50 countries and grossed more than $350 million worldwide. It also cited more than five billion mobile-game downloads as of 2022. Those franchise-wide figures do not establish demand for, or plans to revive, the Star Wars game.

Historical reporting says the mobile game was removed from app stores in 2019, but availability can differ by platform and region. The original also had console releases, including PS4 and Xbox One, so used physical copies may be an option. A listing does not guarantee compatibility or condition: check the platform, region, disc condition, and seller details before buying. This is a way to look for the legacy game, not evidence of a new release.
Quick Recap
How to judge future return rumors
- Look for an announcement from Rovio or SEGA that names Angry Birds Star Wars, rather than a general statement about Angry Birds licensing.
- Check whether the announcement specifies a restored original, remake, remaster, sequel, or another crossover; those are not interchangeable.
- Look for concrete platform and release details. Without them, claims about a launch date or current availability remain unconfirmed.
