No available official update establishes that internet speeds across Pakistan doubled by June 2026. On 5 March, Pakistan’s IT minister was reported as saying a 600 MHz spectrum auction would double internet speed, but the report gave no baseline, measurement method, or distinction between mobile and fixed broadband. A National Assembly committee update on 14 July still described slow speeds and connectivity problems, alongside progress in spectrum and 5G rollout.
What did the government’s speed pledge mean?
On 5 March 2026, Radio Pakistan reported that Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja said a 600 MHz spectrum auction would double internet speed in Pakistan. The report also mentioned three new submarine cables, efforts to connect mobile towers with fiber, and plans for 5G services in five major cities by the end of the year. Those infrastructure and rollout statements do not establish that users experienced a doubling in speed. Read Radio Pakistan’s 5 March report.
The report did not give a starting speed, say how or where speeds would be measured, specify whether the promise applied to mobile or fixed broadband, or set a June deadline. The title’s June date therefore should not be treated as a measurement date or a confirmed government deadline based on that report.

At a meeting on 14 July 2026, the National Assembly Standing Committee on IT and Telecommunication recorded continuing concerns about poor connectivity in remote areas and major cities, including Karachi. Users were reported to be experiencing slow internet and repeated call failures. The committee’s account is evidence that service-quality concerns remained; it is not a nationwide before-and-after speed test. Read the National Assembly committee update.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Spectrum increased, but that is not a speed test
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority told the committee that available spectrum had increased from 274 MHz to 754 MHz following the 5G spectrum auction. More spectrum can support network capacity, but the spectrum total alone does not show the speeds customers receive. Actual performance also depends on deployment and network conditions, and the committee update provides no comparable national user-speed figures before and after the auction.
5G rollout was underway
The committee said 5G had launched in 22 cities using existing mobile towers and network infrastructure. New infrastructure was expected to roll out gradually and could further improve quality and speed over 6–8 months, according to the committee. That is a stated rollout outlook, not a guarantee that every customer—or the country as a whole—would see a particular speed increase by June.

Why cable capacity and subscriber totals do not prove faster internet
International cables, spectrum, and subscriber counts describe different parts of the telecom system. None is a substitute for measuring the connection a user actually receives.
- Submarine cable capacity: A Government of Pakistan release dated 22 November 2025 described SEA-ME-WE 6 as a 19,200-km cable linking countries between Singapore and France, with more than 100 Tbps of total system capacity. Pakistan was allocated 13.2 Tbps, of which 4 Tbps was to be activated immediately. These figures concern international backbone capacity, not an individual subscriber’s speed. See the Press Information Department release.
- Sector size and auction proceeds: A message published by the Press Information Department on 17 May 2026 reported more than 205 million telecom subscribers and over 161 million broadband users. It also reported that the March 2026 IMT/5G spectrum auction secured USD 509.6 million for the national treasury. These figures describe the sector and auction proceeds, not measured internet speeds. Read the President’s message.
What can be concluded about the June 2026 claim?
The available official accounts show a pledge, an increase in available spectrum, and 5G rollout activity. They also show that service-quality complaints were still being recorded in July. They do not provide a comparable nationwide speed series that verifies whether internet speeds doubled by June 2026. That means the claim is unverified in these sources; they do not establish either a nationwide doubling or an exact national speed change.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
For a meaningful comparison, a published assessment would need to distinguish mobile from fixed broadband and compare measured user throughput on the same basis across dates and locations. Advertised package speeds, spectrum totals, cable capacity, and rollout announcements cannot by themselves answer whether users’ connections doubled in speed.

In an earlier update dated 18 November 2025, a National Assembly committee discussed concerns about the overall state and coverage of internet service and said no significant progress had been observed despite PTA surveys. That provides context for the later policy debate, but it is not a numeric speed baseline and cannot be compared directly with post-auction performance. Read the November 2025 committee release.
