An October 2, 2026 report says James Gunn and Peter Safran are expected to remain leaders of DC Studios after meeting Paramount chief David Ellison. That leadership outcome has not been formally announced by DC, Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), or Paramount in the company statements reviewed. The merger itself was still pending as of October 2; the companies said they expected it to close October 6, subject to customary conditions.

Canadian Reviews reported on October 2 that Deadline said Gunn and Safran would continue in their roles following a successful meeting with Ellison. This is a report about the expected leadership arrangement, not an official confirmation from the companies. Accordingly, the clearest answer is: Gunn and Safran are reported to be staying, but their continued leadership was not officially revealed in the primary company materials available as of October 2.

Paramount Skydance and WBD announced on September 30 that they expected the transaction to close on October 6, 2026, subject to customary closing conditions. As of October 2, the acquisition had not closed, so the expected leadership arrangement should not be described as a completed post-merger decision.
Paramount Skydance separately announced that Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz would join David Ellison as co-CEO of the anticipated combined company, effective when the deal closes. That is an official corporate announcement; it does not, by itself, establish the reporting structure or creative authority for DC Studios.
What the official merger materials establish about DC
WBD’s merger announcement lists DC among the company’s brands. It does not specify DC’s future organizational structure, changes to its management, or the fate or timing of individual projects. The brand’s inclusion is not evidence that a particular slate or creative direction has been approved.

What the regulatory decision does—and does not—mean
On June 12, 2026, the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division said it had completed its investigation and concluded that the proposed merger was not likely to harm competition or American consumers in the markets it specified: streaming video on demand, linear television, and theatrical film development, production, or distribution. That is the agency’s determination about those markets. It is not a guarantee about creative decisions at DC or every possible effect of the merger.
