Google has not announced that Rambler is coming to the Google Translate app. Google’s documentation connects Rambler and Translate to the same Gemini audio model family, but that is not evidence that Translate will get Rambler’s voice-typing workflow. For now, a Translate version is only a possibility.
What is Rambler?
Rambler is a Gemini-powered voice-input feature in Gboard. Google describes it as a way to turn natural speech into cleaner, more structured text: it can remove filler words and format grammar and punctuation, and users can edit or rewrite the result by voice. Google’s help pages cover Rambler on Googlebook and as voice input in Gboard on Pixel devices. Availability may vary by device and rollout.
Google’s documentation frames Rambler as a way to produce text through keyboard voice input—not as a translation feature. A technology report from 9to5Google described the interaction as prompt-based rather than live transcription; that is the outlet’s characterization, not a Google specification. 9to5Google’s report explains that distinction.

Google DeepMind’s Gemini 3.5 Audio model card, published August 26, 2026, describes Live Translate, Transcribe, and Transcribe Live capabilities. It also names Google Translate and Gboard Rambler among related products. That establishes a shared technology context, but it does not say Translate is gaining Rambler or announce a new interface in the app.

Google Store’s interview with Ben Greenwood, Director of Product Management, Android, describes Rambler as something that will “completely reimagine voice input in Gboard.” The remark concerns Gboard; it is not a statement that Rambler is coming to Google Translate.
How would a Translate version differ from Rambler?
| Question | Gboard Rambler | Google Translate |
|---|---|---|
| Primary task | Turn spoken thoughts into polished text. | Translate speech or text between languages. |
| Where it fits | Voice input in the Gboard keyboard. | The Google Translate experience. |
| What Google has documented | Voice input, text cleanup, and voice-based editing or rewriting. | Live Translate, Transcribe, and Transcribe Live are named in the Gemini 3.5 Audio model card. |
| Is Rambler’s workflow in Translate? | No announcement or test establishing that transfer appears in the sources cited here. | |
A future Translate feature could use related audio technology without copying Rambler’s keyboard workflow. Until Google describes a specific feature, its interface, supported devices, languages, and release timing cannot be assumed.

What devices and setup does Rambler require?
Google’s Googlebook Rambler help page lists a Googlebook, Gboard set as the default keyboard, microphone permission, and an active internet connection for all Rambler features. Google also maintains a Pixel help page for Rambler voice input. These are requirements for documented Rambler use, not requirements for a potential Translate feature.

What happens to voice input and corrections?
Google says text, audio input, and corrections to voice output are temporarily processed by Google for Rambler. Its support wording does not specify a precise retention period, so it should not be read as a promise about how long data is kept or as a broader privacy guarantee.

Has Google announced Rambler for Translate?
No announcement or test establishing a Rambler-style feature in Google Translate is documented in the sources cited here. Google’s model-card references show a relationship between products and audio capabilities, not a confirmed product transfer, launch date, or supported language and device list. Until Google makes a specific announcement, treat the headline idea as a possibility rather than an imminent feature.
