As of an Oct. 2 report, Chris Sale’s possible start for Atlanta in Sunday’s NLDS Game 2 against the Dodgers was still under consideration—not confirmed. Manager Walt Weiss said the Braves would favor giving Sale more rest if the choice was close, after Sale threw 21 pitches in 1.1 scoreless innings on Thursday. Check the latest Braves or MLB update for any decision made since.
What was known about Sale’s availability
CBS Sports/RotoWire reported Friday, Oct. 2, that Sale starting Sunday’s Game 2 remained “still on the table.” The report did not say the Braves had assigned him that start, ruled him out, or announced an injury.
Sale had closed Atlanta’s Wild Card Series win over Philadelphia on Thursday, Oct. 1, with 1.1 scoreless innings and 21 pitches, according to the report. Weiss said the club would “gonna err on the side of giving him (time to rest) if it’s even close.”

The two timing possibilities
| Option | What the Oct. 2 report said | Trade-off described |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday, NLDS Game 2 | Still possible, not confirmed. | Use Sale sooner after his Thursday relief appearance. |
| Tuesday, NLDS Game 3 in Atlanta | Cited as a possible later start, not a settled plan. | Allow more time after Thursday’s 21-pitch outing. |
The report did not provide a medical diagnosis or establish a final decision. Its figures describe Sale’s specific Wild Card appearance, not a general workload limit.
