Usually, yes: Intel says LGA1700 coolers can mount on LGA1851 motherboards without modification because the mounting holes are mechanically compatible. But Arrow Lake desktop CPUs require an LGA1851 motherboard, and a cooler that fits is not automatically powerful enough or optimally positioned for every processor. Check your cooler maker’s guidance before reusing a specific model.
What changes with Arrow Lake—and what does not?
Intel Core Ultra Desktop Processors (Series 2), commonly called Arrow Lake or Core Ultra 200S, use the LGA1851 socket. They do not work in older LGA1700 motherboards. Intel’s compatibility guidance draws a separate line for cooling: “the mounting holes from the LGA1700 socket remain mechanically compatible with the LGA1851, meaning that existing thermal solutions designed for LGA1700 can still be used without modification.”
In practical terms, the cooler’s mounting hardware may attach to an LGA1851 board even though the motherboard and CPU themselves are not interchangeable with LGA1700. Socket mounting compatibility answers whether the cooler can be installed, not whether it will cool a particular Arrow Lake processor adequately.
How to check whether your cooler is suitable
- Confirm the mounting hardware. Check the cooler maker’s compatibility list or installation manual for LGA1851, or for confirmation that its LGA1700 hardware is supported on LGA1851. Some product documentation lists both: for example, DeepCool’s AK620 DIGITAL SE manual identifies Intel mounting hardware for LGA1851 and LGA1700.
- Verify cooling capacity and coverage. Intel’s thermal-solution guidance says that mechanical mounting compatibility does not settle thermal or power compatibility; consult the cooler manufacturer about the processor’s expected power and whether the cooler’s heat-transfer surface adequately covers the package.
- Check your build’s physical clearances. Confirm cooler height against your case, radiator space if using liquid cooling, RAM clearance, and whether you can access the motherboard backplate with the cooler installed.
- Consider hotspot alignment only if the cooler maker supports an offset mount. Intel’s mounting guidance does not establish that every cooler needs an offset bracket. A bracket is specific to supported cooler models and should be used only as directed by its manufacturer.
Does Arrow Lake need an offset mounting bracket?
Not as a general requirement. The NM-IB8 from Noctua is an Arrow Lake-oriented offset mounting solution for supported NH-D15 G2 variants; Tom’s Hardware reports that it targets Arrow Lake’s shifted hotspot. That example does not establish a benefit or compatibility for other coolers. Check the cooler manufacturer’s instructions for your exact model before buying or fitting an offset kit.

Quick decision guide
| Question | What to establish |
|---|---|
| Will it physically mount? | Intel says LGA1700 mounting holes are mechanically compatible with LGA1851; confirm your cooler’s model-specific hardware and instructions. |
| Will it cool my CPU? | Ask the cooler maker about thermal and power suitability and heat-source coverage for the specific Arrow Lake processor. |
| Do I need an offset bracket? | Only if the bracket is designed for your cooler and recommended for your use; Noctua’s NM-IB8 example is for supported NH-D15 G2 variants. |
| Can I keep my LGA1700 motherboard? | No. Arrow Lake desktop processors require an LGA1851 motherboard. |
