If your Samsung Galaxy phone is charging slowly or no longer shows a fast-charging message, check the phone’s charging setting, the adapter and cable, and the connection before assuming the battery has failed. Fast charging depends on the exact Galaxy model and software version; heat, moisture detection, port debris, or Battery protection can also slow or stop charging.
First, confirm the phone and charging method support fast charging
Fast charging is not a universal speed setting: your Galaxy model, the charger, the cable, and whether you are charging by wire or wirelessly all matter. Check your model’s specifications or documentation to confirm which charging tier it supports. A charger with a higher advertised wattage cannot make a phone charge at a rate the phone does not support.
For wired charging, connect to a wall adapter. Samsung notes that fast charging does not activate when the phone is connected to a PC or standard USB port. If the phone charges slowly only through a computer, try a compatible wall charger instead.

Check the fast-charging setting
On supported models, open Settings > Battery > Charging settings and turn on Fast charging. Menu names and layouts can differ by model and software version. Samsung says Galaxy S23 series and later combine Fast charging and Super fast charging under one setting. See Samsung’s instructions for enabling fast charging and fast wireless charging.

If you are troubleshooting wireless charging, check the wireless charging setting and use a compatible wireless charger. Wired and wireless fast charging are separate capabilities; support for one does not confirm support for the other.
Match the adapter and cable to your Galaxy’s charging tier
Samsung’s US troubleshooting guide describes these general wired-charging combinations. They are not a guarantee that every Galaxy model supports each tier, so verify the supported level for your specific phone. Samsung also cautions that a cable’s rating can affect whether an accessory combination works as intended.

A loose connection, damaged accessory, or debris in the charging port can interfere with charging. Disconnect and reconnect the cable firmly at both ends. If available, test with a known-compatible, undamaged Samsung adapter and cable.

- Turn the phone off before inspecting its charging port.
- Use a light to look for visible lint or debris.
- If you see debris, remove it carefully without using metal objects or liquids. Do not force anything into the port.
- Reconnect the cable securely and check whether charging improves.
If the port looks damaged or the cable does not fit securely, stop using that connection and arrange an inspection rather than probing the port.
Let the phone cool and respond to moisture warnings
Samsung identifies temperature and moisture detection as reasons charging may slow or pause. If the phone is hot, disconnect it and let it cool before trying again. If a moisture warning appears, do not charge through the port until it is fully dry; follow the device-specific guidance from Samsung rather than inserting objects or liquids into the port.

Review Battery protection if charging stops early
Battery protection can limit the maximum charge or stop charging at a selected point, depending on the option enabled. If charging repeatedly ends before the level you expect, check the Battery protection setting and its selected option. This is different from a slow connection: a charge limit may be intentional rather than evidence of a faulty charger.

- Tap Support > Phone diagnostics > Cable charging.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and note the result.
If a compatible accessory does not resolve the issue or diagnostics indicates a problem, contact Samsung Support or visit a service center for hardware inspection. Do not assume the battery is the cause without a diagnosis.
