An NFL livestream blackout usually means either the game is outside the package you bought or the service cannot verify your current location. Check the game’s broadcast category and your plan before subscribing to anything else: NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube is mainly for out-of-market regular-season Sunday afternoon games, not every NFL game. If the game should be included, troubleshoot location verification.
Why an NFL game is blacked out
“Blacked out” can describe two different problems: a rights or package restriction, or a location-verification error. The first is not fixed by changing device settings; the second may be. Start with the exact matchup and the service you are using.
The game is local to your current market
Standalone NFL Sunday Ticket is for out-of-market Sunday afternoon regular-season games. If a game is being shown on a local CBS or FOX station in your area, it is not included in standalone Sunday Ticket for that location. YouTube TV may carry the local station, depending on its channel lineup in your market. Check YouTube’s NFL Sunday Ticket game availability and the NFL viewing options on YouTube TV and YouTube for the specific matchup and market.

The game is national, postseason, preseason, or otherwise excluded
Standalone Sunday Ticket does not cover nationally televised games, preseason or postseason games, or certain select and digital-exclusive games. Find the game’s broadcaster or official listing and use a service carrying that broadcast. Buying Sunday Ticket alone will not unlock a game excluded from the package.

The service has placed you in the wrong location
YouTube uses your playback location to determine game availability. If a game should be available in your area but is missing, the device or browser may have location access disabled, may be signed in to the wrong account, or may not have completed the location check. YouTube explains playback location for Primetime Channels and current playback-area checks for YouTube TV NFL viewing.
Which YouTube package carries the game?
The packages cover different sets of games. YouTube TV’s main plan provides local and national broadcasts carried by channels in your area; Sunday Ticket adds out-of-market Sunday afternoon regular-season games. Standalone Sunday Ticket is not a local-channel package.

How to troubleshoot a missing game
- Look up the exact game. Check its date, broadcaster, and whether it is local, national, postseason, preseason, digital-exclusive, or an out-of-market Sunday afternoon game. Weekly local listings can change; use the official Sunday Ticket availability information and check the current market listing.
- Confirm the active package. Identify whether you have standalone Sunday Ticket, Sunday Ticket as a YouTube TV add-on, or only the YouTube TV main plan. Their coverage differs; see YouTube’s package and billing details.
- If the game is local or national, use a service carrying that broadcast. Check the channel lineup available in your market. A standalone Sunday Ticket subscription is not a substitute for the local or national broadcast package.
- If the game should be included, verify your playback area. In YouTube TV, open your profile’s location settings and update Current playback area, allowing location access if prompted. For Primetime Channels, follow the on-screen playback-area verification prompt. See YouTube TV’s NFL viewing guidance and Primetime Channels location settings.
- For casting or a location error, use the same account on your phone and TV. Enable location sharing in the mobile browser, then follow the on-screen flow or visit youtube.com/locate. Reopen the app and try again. YouTube also suggests clearing browser cache and cookies for some casting problems; see location and playback-area troubleshooting.
- If it is still unavailable, contact the provider. Give support the game, device, current location, package, and exact error message. Those details help distinguish a package restriction from a location-detection problem.
What not to do
- Do not buy Sunday Ticket assuming it includes every NFL game; local, national, postseason, preseason, and other excluded games require the service carrying their broadcast.
- Do not treat a location error as proof that a game is included in your package; first check the game category and plan.
- Avoid relying on a VPN as a fix. It does not resolve package rights or coverage, and the official help guidance cited here does not present it as an authorized remedy.
