A Galaxy Watch that charges slowly is usually dealing with a mismatched charging puck, an underpowered USB source, poor alignment, an obstruction, or excess heat. Identify the exact watch generation first, then test the model-compatible Samsung puck from a USB Power Delivery adapter rated at least 5V/2A. If the watch remains slow with that setup, run Samsung Members diagnostics and arrange service with both the puck and adapter.
What “slow charging” means on a Galaxy Watch
Charging time depends on the watch model, battery level, temperature, charging mode, puck, adapter and power source. A time that is normal for one generation can indicate a problem on another, so there is no single charging-time target for every Galaxy Watch.
Samsung’s published figures illustrate the difference. A Galaxy Watch9 40mm is listed at 80 minutes for a normal charge, while the Watch9 44mm is listed at 90 minutes for a normal charge. Samsung lists the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 at 90 minutes in Fast Charging mode or 190 minutes in normal mode. These are model- and mode-specific estimates, not guarantees for every charging session or every Galaxy Watch.
| Model | Published charging estimate | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch9 40mm | 80 minutes | Normal charge; Samsung U.S. support estimate |
| Galaxy Watch9 44mm | 90 minutes | Normal charge; Fast Charging is marked unavailable for this size |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra2 | 90 minutes fast or 190 minutes normal | Separate estimates for Fast Charging and normal charging |
If your watch takes longer than expected only when it is hot, nearly full, inside a thick case, connected to a computer, or placed on a phone’s Wireless Power Sharing area, the charging method—not necessarily the battery—is the first thing to investigate.

1. Identify the exact watch generation before changing the charger
The charging puck is not interchangeable across every Galaxy Watch. Samsung warns that an incompatible puck can produce slow charging, repeated connect-and-disconnect cycles, charging failure or an error message. Read the model information in the Galaxy Wearable app or on the watch and check the charger’s model marking before buying a replacement.
| Watch generation | Samsung charger model listed for it | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch6 | EP-OR900 | Confirm the watch is one of these generations and that the puck is the same model |
| Galaxy Watch7, Watch8, Watch8 Classic, Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra | EP-OL300 | Check the exact watch generation and market; do not assume an older puck is equivalent |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra2 | EP-OL715 | Use the dedicated Ultra2 puck when testing Fast Charging |
Model names and accessory stock can differ by country. A listing that uses a similar-looking product photo is not enough evidence of compatibility. Match the printed model number and your watch generation, and confirm availability through the Samsung support information for your market.
2. Check the wall adapter and USB source
Even a correct dedicated puck can charge slowly if the device supplying it cannot deliver the required power. Samsung’s guidance for the listed wireless chargers calls for USB Power Delivery and at least 5V/2A. The USB-C or USB-A plug shape alone does not establish that the source supports the required output.
Sources that commonly limit charging
- Older AFC or QC-only adapters: They may not provide the USB PD behavior expected by the watch charger.
- Power banks: Some shut down at the watch’s low draw, negotiate an unsuitable profile, or provide less power than their headline rating suggests.
- Computer ports: A PC or monitor port may supply insufficient current, especially when other devices are connected.
- Multi-port hubs and docks: Their available output can be shared or reduced when several ports are in use.
- Damaged or low-quality cables: A cable with an intermittent connection can cause repeated reconnections that look like slow charging.
For a controlled test, connect the compatible puck directly to a suitable wall outlet through a genuine, compatible adapter. Samsung lists adapter examples including EP-TA800, EP-TA845, EP-TA865, EP-TA220, EP-T4511, EP-T1510, EP-T6530, EP-TB010 and EP-T2510. These are examples rather than a promise that every model is sold in every region; check the local compatibility information.
A higher wattage number on an adapter does not automatically make the watch charge faster. The watch and puck still negotiate their supported charging mode. The important first checks are USB PD support, at least 5V/2A for the listed chargers, a sound cable and a compatible puck.

3. Correct the physical charging setup
Wireless charging depends on close alignment between the coil in the watch and the coil in the puck. Small changes in position, thickness or moisture can reduce the delivered power or interrupt charging.
- Remove the watch from a thick cover. Test without a rugged case, bumper or raised protector. Refit it only after a normal charging session succeeds.
- Remove metallic or magnetic accessories. A metal band, plate, ring, decorative insert or object between the watch and puck can interfere with the charging field.
- Lay the watch flat. Center the back of the watch on the puck’s charging area rather than balancing it at an angle on the edge.
- Inspect both surfaces. Dust, skin oil or debris can prevent close contact. Wipe the watch back and puck with a clean, dry, soft cloth.
- Confirm everything is dry. Do not charge while the watch back or puck is wet. The charging pad itself is not waterproof.
- Watch the charging indicator. If the icon appears and disappears as you touch or move the watch, alignment, an obstruction, the cable or the power source is more likely than a software setting.
Do not scrape the contacts or charging surface with metal tools, and do not pour liquid onto the puck. Safe, dry cleaning avoids adding a second fault to the original charging problem.

4. Let an overheated watch or charger cool
Heat can reduce charging power and may make charging pause until the temperature falls. This can happen after exercise tracking, navigation, a software update, direct sunlight or charging in a warm room.
- Remove the watch from the puck and take off any insulating cover.
- Move both devices to a cool, dry, shaded place with normal airflow.
- Wait until the watch and puck feel close to room temperature.
- Reconnect the puck to the wall adapter and retry with the watch centered and uncovered.
Do not use a freezer, ice pack or other abrupt cooling method. Condensation can damage electronics and create a moisture problem.
5. Treat Wireless Power Sharing as a different, slower method
Wireless Power Sharing from a compatible phone can be useful away from a charger, but it is not a reliable baseline for judging the puck’s speed. The phone’s remaining battery, temperature, alignment and power-management rules affect the result, and Samsung says some newer watch models do not support Wireless Power Sharing.

6. Use Samsung Members to test wireless charging
When the basic setup checks do not explain the delay, Samsung Members on the paired phone may provide a wireless-charging diagnostic. Samsung notes that menu names and availability can vary with the watch, phone and software version.
- Open Samsung Members on the phone paired with the watch.
- Open Support.
- Select Connected device diagnostics.
- Choose the connected Galaxy Watch.
- Run Wireless charging test.
If you cannot find that path, update Samsung Members and the Galaxy Wearable software, reconnect the watch, and check the Support area again. A missing menu does not by itself prove that the watch is defective; Samsung changes labels and diagnostic availability by software version and model.
7. Follow this complete troubleshooting sequence
Use the steps in order so that each test changes only one variable. That makes it easier to identify whether the fault is the puck, adapter, source, setup or watch.
- Record the exact watch model and size. Note the generation, such as Watch6, Watch8 Classic or Ultra2, rather than relying on the case shape.
- Read the puck model. Match EP-OR900, EP-OL300 or EP-OL715 to the applicable generation listed above.
- Disconnect alternative sources. Remove the phone from the test and do not use a PC port, hub or power bank for this check.
- Use a compatible USB PD adapter. Confirm at least 5V/2A output and connect directly to a wall outlet.
- Remove cases and metallic accessories. Place the bare watch flat and centered on the puck.
- Clean and dry the surfaces. Use only a clean, dry, soft cloth; do not wet the puck.
- Cool the equipment. Wait if either the watch or charger is noticeably hot.
- Observe a full test session. Note whether the indicator stays on, whether charging repeatedly stops, and whether the percentage increases consistently.
- Run Samsung Members diagnostics. Use the Wireless charging test where it is available.
- Escalate with the complete setup. If charging is still slow, bring the watch, dedicated puck and adapter to Samsung service so the accessories can be tested together.
8. Know which charging modes your generation supports
Charging-mode labels are not interchangeable. Samsung identifies Watch4, Watch3, Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch Active as supporting standard charging only. The Watch5 through Watch9 generations listed in the guidance support charging faster than standard when paired with the appropriate equipment. Galaxy Watch Ultra2 supports Fast Charging with its dedicated fast charger.

| Family | Charging capability described by Samsung | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch4, Watch3, Watch Active2 and Watch Active | Standard charging only | Do not expect a newer fast-charge label or newer-generation estimate to apply |
| Galaxy Watch5, Watch6, Watch7, Watch8, Watch8 Classic and Watch9 | Faster-than-standard charging with supported equipment | Use the puck and adapter matched to the generation; a generic Qi pad is not a guaranteed substitute |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra | Uses the applicable newer-generation charger | Verify whether the watch is the original Ultra or Ultra2 before choosing EP-OL300 or EP-OL715 |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra2 | Fast Charging with its dedicated fast charger | Use EP-OL715 and a suitable USB PD source when checking Fast Charging |
Dedicated puck versus phone Power Sharing
| Charging approach | Compatibility to check | Power-source considerations | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dedicated Samsung wireless puck | Exact watch generation and puck model | USB PD adapter rated at least 5V/2A for the listed chargers | Primary method for normal or faster charging and for troubleshooting |
| Phone Wireless Power Sharing | Phone and watch must both support the feature; some newer watches do not | Phone battery level, alignment and temperature can reduce speed | Emergency or travel charging, not a controlled speed test |
| PC port, hub or power bank | Puck still must match the watch | Output may be insufficient, shared or unstable | Avoid while diagnosing slow charging |
| Generic Qi pad | Compatibility is not assured for Galaxy Watch charging coils and modes | Output and alignment vary by pad | Do not treat it as a guaranteed replacement for the dedicated puck |
When the charger itself is the likely fault
Suspect the puck, cable or adapter when the watch charges normally only after the cable is moved, repeatedly reconnects, shows an error, or behaves differently with a known-good compatible source. Inspect the cable for cuts, crushed sections, bent plugs or looseness, but do not continue using visibly damaged accessories.
Swap only one item at a time if you have another accessory whose model and electrical specifications are confirmed. A replacement puck should be selected by the watch generation, not merely by connector type or appearance. A replacement USB PD adapter is relevant only when the existing puck is already compatible and the source is the suspected limitation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When the watch may need service
Arrange a Samsung service evaluation when all of these conditions are true:
- The exact watch and puck models have been matched.
- The puck is connected to a genuine, suitable USB PD adapter rated at least 5V/2A.
- The watch is uncovered, centered, clean and dry.
- The equipment has cooled to room temperature.
- Charging remains slow, stops repeatedly or fails after the Samsung Members test.
Samsung’s support guidance recommends visiting a service center with both the dedicated charger and the genuine power adapter when charging remains slow. Bring the watch as well, and describe which source, puck model and charging mode produced the problem. Testing the complete combination helps the technician distinguish a watch fault from an accessory or power-negotiation fault.

Assuming more adapter watts means faster charging
The watch does not automatically draw the maximum number printed on an adapter. Supported USB PD profiles, the puck and the watch determine the usable mode.
Testing through a laptop first
A laptop port or dock may provide less power than the watch charger needs. Use a suitable wall adapter for the baseline test.
Leaving a metal accessory between watch and puck
Metal plates, rings and some bands can interfere with the charging field. Remove them before judging the charger.
Cleaning the pad with liquid
The pad is not waterproof. Use a dry, soft cloth and wait until every surface is dry before charging.
Using a phone-sharing result as proof of a bad battery
Power Sharing varies with phone conditions and is unsupported on some newer models. It cannot replace a test with the dedicated puck.
Comparing your time with the wrong model’s estimate
The Watch9 40mm, Watch9 44mm and Ultra2 figures use different sizes and modes. They should not be generalized to other Galaxy Watches.
Quick decision guide
- Slow only with a case or band attached: Remove the obstruction and retest flat on the puck.
- Slow only from a computer, hub or power bank: Move the puck to a USB PD wall adapter rated at least 5V/2A.
- Slow with a phone’s Power Sharing: Use the dedicated puck; the phone method may be slower or unsupported.
- Repeated connect-and-disconnect behavior: Check model compatibility, alignment, cable integrity and adapter output.
- Slow after the watch becomes hot: Stop charging, let both devices cool, then retry uncovered.
- Still slow with the correct puck and wall adapter: Run Samsung Members Wireless charging diagnostics and contact service with both accessories.
What to record before contacting support
Write down the watch generation and size, puck model, adapter model, source type, starting and ending battery percentages, approximate elapsed time, room conditions and any error or reconnection behavior. This information gives service staff a reproducible setup instead of a general report that the watch is “slow.” Keep the puck and adapter together when you bring them in.
