Your Fortress Saga team may be losing because its lineup does not suit the mode, it cannot survive long enough to deal damage, or its build depends on progression you have not reached. Diagnose the battle’s failure point first; then adjust durability, fortress support, damage, and investment to match your roster rather than copying a single “best team.”
Start by identifying where the team fails
First note the mode and encounter: a stage, boss, idle setup, Arena match, and guild battle can call for different formations. Kamigame’s composition guide, updated October 1, 2026, treats these as separate contexts rather than naming one lineup as best everywhere. See its mode-specific formation guide.
Then watch what happens in battle. This is a practical diagnostic, not a universal game rule:

- Your heroes or fortress fall before the enemy: check frontline durability, healing, shielding, fortress HP, and fortress support before adding more damage.
- You survive but cannot finish the encounter: check whether the lineup has enough damage for that opponent and whether your chosen build has the progression investment it relies on.
- The team works in one mode but not another: use a formation suited to the new mode instead of assuming the first lineup should work everywhere.
The right fix also depends on your owned heroes, advancement, equipment, and the point where the fight turns. Without those details, a general guide can offer useful branches but cannot diagnose an individual account.

Choose a lineup for the mode and roster you have
Early-stage example
Kamigame’s October 1, 2026 guide lists Ungula, Violet, Iris, and Hoya as an early-stage example. Treat it as one guide’s suggested formation, not an independently tested universal best team. Its advice when key picks are unavailable is to preserve a frontline that can hold and a hero who supports fortress damage. The guide also includes a lower-rarity example, so lacking a top-ranked hero does not mean you must abandon your account or stop progressing.
That guide includes equipment and fortress recommendations as well as formations. Because those details and hero availability can change, check its current tables and your in-game options before copying specific gear. Read Kamigame’s formation examples.

Other modes
For bosses, idle play, Arena, and guild battles, use the mode-specific sections of the guide as a starting point, then account for your available heroes and the opponent. The existence of separate recommendations is a reason not to transplant an early-stage lineup blindly; it does not establish that every listed formation performs the same across server regions.
Decide whether survival or damage is the real bottleneck
Consider fortress HP after Harmony Sanctuary unlocks
If the problem is survival or fortress durability and you have unlocked Harmony Sanctuary, a fortress-HP build is the more accessible route described by Kamigame’s June 2, 2026 comparison. It recommends one or two tanks or healers, heroes with HP-boosting passives, and characters that strengthen or heal the fortress. In this approach, fortress damage is central, so your team is less dependent on each deployed hero’s personal strength. These are the guide’s recommendations, not a guarantee that the build will suit every encounter.

Reserve hero-attack builds for heavily developed accounts
The same June 2 guide describes an attack-focused build as an advanced option. It lists Hero’s Path level 24 or higher, strong constellation development, fortress enhancement at stage 7 or higher, and combined maximum-transcendence combat-power bonuses in the 1,000–1,500% range. Those are thresholds reported by that guide on its publication date, not independently verified universal game rules; check the current guide and your in-game systems before using them as a target.
If you have not reached those conditions, a damage-heavy setup may ask for investment your account does not yet have. Strengthen the parts of the team you can support now rather than treating an attack build as an immediate fix.

Use hero rankings as a snapshot, not a team plan
Pocket Gamer’s tier list was updated September 16, 2026 and labels its coverage version 2.1.02. It names Anubis as its latest addition and places a broad group of heroes in S+. It also describes role-specific strengths: Violet’s summons, Malleus’s cluster control and Machina support, and Styria’s healing, shielding, and passive HP increase. These details can help you think about roles, but a tier label alone does not tell you whether a hero fits your mode, build, or available roster.

Pocket Gamer says its ranking is based on the Japanese game adapted for the global server, so it is an editorial snapshot with that regional framing—not an official or objective ranking. The newer Kamigame formation page, updated October 1, 2026, mentions a Lumiel pickup banner, another reminder that character availability and recommendations can move quickly. Make the next adjustment based on evidence from your own battle
- Pick one mode and encounter. Avoid changing a lineup based on a result from a different mode.
- Identify the failure point. If the team collapses early, investigate frontline and fortress durability. If it survives, investigate encounter damage and build investment.
- Match the build to progression. Consider the HP route after Harmony Sanctuary unlock if durability is the issue; treat the attack route as a later investment-heavy option according to the June 2 guide.
- Substitute by role when a recommended hero is missing. For the early-stage example, Kamigame advises keeping a capable frontline and fortress-damage support rather than requiring every named pick.
- Recheck recommendations before spending resources. Rankings, banners, and lineup advice are dated snapshots, and they are not a personalized prescription for your account.
