Start by checking whether your characters’ Z Abilities actually support one another and whether their Tags or Episodes match. Then inspect the three fighters you bring into a standard match, their progression, and your decisions in recent battles. A weak party can contribute to losses, but without your roster and match evidence, there is no way to identify one specific cause.
1. Check Z Ability coverage and your team’s identity
Build around party buffs rather than simply collecting individually appealing characters. Bandai Namco’s advice is direct: “First, try building a party around Z Abilities.” Choose a Tag or Episode that fits the characters you plan to use, then verify which allies each candidate’s Z Ability supports.
- Open Party Formation and use its Tag or Episode filters to find characters that fit your intended core.
- Open a candidate’s Character Details and read the Z Ability rather than assuming it buffs the whole party.
- Check coverage for the fighters you expect to deploy, and revise the lineup if important abilities do not apply to them.
Bandai Namco’s party-formation FAQ recommends this approach and suggests looking at high-ranking PvP parties as references. Treat those parties as examples to study, not proof that their roster, investment, or season conditions match yours. A community-hosted beginner-event notice describes an additional interface cue: a character icon’s displayed number indicates how many Z/Zenkai Abilities apply, while a glowing icon indicates Z Abilities are applying. That is an unofficial tip, so use the official character details and filters to verify the actual coverage.
2. Audit the fighters you actually bring into battle
In standard rules, you select three fighters from a six-character party. Evaluate those likely battle members separately from the bench: a well-matched party can still produce a poorly supported trio if the three you choose do not benefit from its buffs or cannot answer the opposing team.

- Buff coverage: Which Z Abilities apply to each of your likely three?
- Battle function: What does each selected fighter contribute, based on its actual abilities?
- Threat response: Can the trio deal damage, survive pressure, and respond to the opponents you are facing?
Do not treat a fixed color spread, equipment setup, or offense/defense/support formula as a universal rule. The available official guidance does not establish one. Judge roles from the characters’ abilities and the threats your lineup needs to handle. The official battle guide describes standard selection and other battle mechanics. PROUD differs: all six party members are used across a best-of-three, so assess the full lineup for that format rather than applying standard three-fighter assumptions.
3. Compare progression before changing the lineup
If you have two plausible options for a slot, compare their Limit Breaks and relevant Z Ability effects. Bandai Namco’s Limit Break FAQ explains that Z Power enables Limit Breaks, which raise stats at certain thresholds and improve Z Abilities at 3, 6, and 7+ stars. Some characters at 7 stars can Zenkai Awaken if you collect the required Awakening Z Power.

These are useful comparison points, not a reason to spend automatically. The available guidance does not establish that pursuing more stars—or any particular star threshold—is the best fix for an individual losing team.

4. Review recent losses for execution patterns
Changing characters will not fix a repeated timing or resource-use problem. Review a few matches and look for moments that recur, rather than assuming a mistake from one isolated loss.

5. Compare candidate lineups on the same evidence
If you have at least two viable parties, compare them using the same questions instead of relying on a single appealing character or a copied formation.

6. Treat current-meta claims cautiously
Character recommendations can become dated as the roster changes. Official game-site notices dated September 8 and September 22, 2026, show new character-related updates, but release notices do not establish a current PvP ranking. The evidence available here does not identify a dependable official tier list or prove which team is strongest now. If you consult rankings elsewhere, check their date and the evidence behind them instead of treating an undated recommendation as a permanent answer.
What to share for a more specific diagnosis
To work out why a particular team is losing, someone would need to see the roster and how it is used—not just the team name. Useful details include the six party members, their relevant Z Ability coverage and progression, which three you select in standard matches (or the format you play), and replay evidence from recent losses. Include equipment if you want it considered, but no universal setup is established here. Without those details, a precise individual cause would be guesswork.
