If your Quest 2 will not connect to a PC, first identify whether you are troubleshooting wired Meta Horizon Link over USB or wireless Air Link over Wi-Fi. For a wired connection, check that the cable carries data, test its speed in the Meta Horizon Link PC app, and connect directly to a USB 3 port. For Air Link, confirm both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network and that your firewall allows the Meta app.

First, identify which connection is failing

Quest 2 connects to a PC in two different ways: wired Meta Horizon Link uses USB, while Air Link discovers the PC over your local network. Test only one mode at a time so the results are clear.

  • For wired Link: Turn off Air Link while testing the USB connection.
  • For Air Link: Disconnect the USB cable and select Air Link in the Meta software.

Check the PC app and updates

Use a supported Windows PC with the Meta Horizon Link PC app installed and up to date. Restart both the PC and Quest 2 after installing updates, then test the connection again. Link detection can fail because of software defects rather than faulty hardware; Meta reported that a fix for one such detection issue shipped on October 31, 2025. Meta’s Link troubleshooting notes describe that issue and its fix.

Fix a wired Quest Link connection

Use a USB data cable, not just a charging cable

A cable that charges the headset may not carry the data needed for Link. Meta’s hardware setup guidance specifies a USB-C data cable supporting at least 5 GB/s and recommends the Meta Horizon Link Cable. Meta Horizon OS Developers’ hardware setup guidance gives this cable requirement.

Ensures low latency and reliable signal. For best results, plug into a USB 3.0 / 3.1 / 3.2 port and keep your headset and PC Link software updated.
  • Comfortable & Secure Design: The L-shaped USB-C connector reduces headset port strain and improves comfort during long VR sessions. Includes a Velcro strap to keep the cable in place and prevent disconnection. Flexible, tangle-free design allows smooth, unrestricted movement.
  • Durable and Reliable Build: Constructed with flexible, abrasion-resistant materials and reinforced stress points for long-term use. Comes with a user guide, 18-month warranty, and dedicated Syntech customer support.

Connect the cable directly to a USB 3-class port on the PC. Avoid hubs, extenders, and unnecessary adapters during diagnosis. Reseat both ends, and check the cable and connectors for fraying, kinks, or bent pins. If possible, try another suitable cable and another direct USB 3 port.

Run the PC app’s USB Test

  1. Open Meta Horizon Link on the PC.
  2. Go to Devices and select the connected headset.
  3. Choose USB Test, then click Test Connection.

Meta says the built-in test measures connection speed. A low result points toward a cable, adapter, or port problem; remove adapters or hubs and test another cable or port. Meta also states that color passthrough over Link requires an effective USB bandwidth of 2 Gbps. That figure is specific to color passthrough, not a general minimum for every Link connection. See Meta’s USB connection troubleshooting guidance.

If the headset says “charging only”

Treat “charging only,” or a PC that never detects the headset, as a failure of the USB data path. Check the cable’s data capability, try a direct port, and remove adapters or hubs. If another data-capable cable does not help, the cause may be USB enumeration or Link software detection rather than the cable: Meta’s active Quest 2 USB 3.0 investigation documents the charging-only symptom even with a cable capable of transferring data. Fix Air Link when it cannot find the PC

Confirm the local network

Air Link requires the headset and PC to share the same Wi-Fi network. Confirm that the headset is connected to the network you expect, and select Air Link in the Meta software with the USB cable disconnected. See Meta’s Air Link setup guidance.

Check firewall and antivirus permissions

Firewall or antivirus rules can block PC discovery. Allow the Meta Quest Link app through Windows Defender Firewall or the firewall and security software you use, then try discovery again. Meta lists firewall whitelisting among its troubleshooting steps: Meta Air Link support.

For a more stable network arrangement, connect the PC to the router by Ethernet while keeping the headset on the same local network. Router performance and wireless conditions vary, so first establish whether the PC is discoverable; troubleshoot image quality or latency only after discovery works.
