If a U.S. Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) did not appear on your Samsung Galaxy, first check that alerts are enabled, then check Airplane mode, cellular reception, software, and whether the phone was in a call. The setting can be correct even when a local cell site, carrier support, or device conditions prevent an alert from arriving, so enabling alerts cannot guarantee delivery.
Check that Wireless emergency alerts are enabled
On many recent U.S. Galaxy phones, open Settings > Safety and emergency > Wireless emergency alerts and turn on Allow alerts. Samsung notes that available options can vary by carrier and that menus differ across devices and software versions. Samsung’s U.S. alert-settings guidance describes the current route and its variation.
If you do not see that menu, search Settings for “emergency alerts.” Another route on some versions is Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings > Wireless emergency alerts. Samsung’s U.S. instructions include this alternate route. Check Samsung’s settings guidance for the menu details.

Check cellular reception and Airplane mode
Make sure Airplane mode is off and the phone has cellular reception. Samsung lists Airplane mode and poor reception among reasons an emergency alert might not arrive. It also says a cell site may not be broadcasting, may be under maintenance, or may be out of service. Samsung’s U.S. troubleshooting guidance explains these possible network causes.
If the setting is enabled but alerts are repeatedly missing in an area, contact your wireless carrier and ask whether service or alert capability is supported there and whether a network or cell-site issue is known. That is a sensible follow-up to the carrier and cell-site factors Samsung identifies, not a guaranteed diagnosis.

Consider the phone, software, and whether you were on a call
Install available software updates
Check the phone’s Settings > Software update area for an available update; exact labels can vary. Samsung’s U.K. support guidance recommends current software and identifies older or unsupported devices and software as possible factors. Those U.K. details are not a universal statement of U.S. WEA eligibility, and an update cannot restore coverage or correct a cell-site outage. Samsung’s U.K. Emergency Alerts guidance is regional guidance, not the U.S. WEA instructions.
If the expected alert coincided with a call
Samsung says some devices may not show an alert during a phone call, and behavior varies by make and model. A call is therefore worth noting when troubleshooting, but it does not establish that every Galaxy suppresses alerts during calls. Samsung’s troubleshooting page describes this device-dependent possibility.

If alerts keep reappearing
If the problem is repeated or recurring alerts rather than an alert that never arrived, Samsung recommends powering the device off and back on. This is a restart step for that reported behavior, not a fix for poor reception or a cell-site problem. See Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance.
Understand what WEA can and cannot guarantee
The Federal Communications Commission describes WEA as an opt-out alert notification system available on “most smartphones that were manufactured after 2012,” depending on wireless-provider participation. “Most” is not “all”: that general description does not guarantee delivery to a particular phone, carrier, or location. The FCC’s WEA overview explains the system and provider condition.

WEA is not an ordinary SMS subscription or an app that independently guarantees alerts. The cited troubleshooting guidance identifies phone settings, software, reception, and network conditions—not a phone accessory, replacement part, repair kit, or third-party app—as remedies for missed alerts. A separate emergency radio would be another warning channel, not a way to repair WEA receipt on the phone.

- Open Settings > Safety and emergency > Wireless emergency alerts and check Allow alerts. If that path is missing, search Settings for “emergency alerts” or try Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings > Wireless emergency alerts.
- Turn Airplane mode off and check for cellular reception.
- Install any available phone software update.
- Note whether the phone was in a call when the alert was expected.
- If alerts remain missing, ask your carrier about service and alert support in the relevant area, since local network conditions may be involved.
These steps apply to U.S. WEA. Samsung’s U.K. Emergency Alerts system has region-specific instructions and should not be treated as the U.S. system.
