Mumbai police arrested MNS functionary Ganesh Chukkal in a case alleging that a three-year leave-and-licence arrangement for a Powai flat was later represented by a document claiming a 30-year term and bearing forged signatures. The allegations have not been proved in court. The Times of India reported that Chukkal was remanded to police custody until October 5, 2026; Hindustan Times and India Today also reported the arrest of associate Sameer Sawant.
What is the alleged lease forgery?
According to the FIR details described in news reports, the dispute concerns a flat and two parking spaces at Hiranandani Estates in Powai. Chukkal, through Bryce Infrastructure, reportedly took the property under a 36-month leave-and-licence arrangement in 2018. Police allege a later document claimed a 30-year term and carried forged signatures. The alleged discrepancy came to light when the purported longer-term document was used in court in response to efforts to recover possession, the reports say.
The Times of India’s 2022 report described an FIR and allegations over the longer lease; it does not establish that the allegations were proven. The Times of India’s September 23, 2022 report

Hindustan Times and India Today also reported the arrest of Sameer Sawant, described as an associate. How is Akshay Kumar’s sister connected to the property?
The reports link the flat to Melronia Hospitality Pvt Ltd and identify Alka Bhatia Hiranandani, Akshay Kumar’s sister, as associated with the company. They also name other company directors. No corporate filing is cited in the reports covered here, so those company and directorship details should be understood as reported descriptions, not independently verified ownership records.
Why do reports give different rent figures?
The Times of India reports monthly rent of ₹2.55 lakh and a ₹15.3 lakh security deposit. A Hindustan Times report gives the monthly payment as ₹2.25 lakh. The published accounts therefore conflict on rent; without a primary lease or other record to resolve it, neither figure should be treated as settled.

What remains unproven?
The reporting describes allegations of cheating and forgery and a police investigation. Arrest and police custody are procedural developments, not findings of guilt. The cited coverage does not establish that a signature was forged or that anyone committed cheating, and it does not report a conviction.
