Early launch coverage linked a wave of negative Steam reviews for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered to performance complaints and bugs, including reports from PC players using AMD graphics cards. The figures describe the first days after the September 29, 2026 release—not the game’s current lifetime review record—and separate reports identified other issues, including NVIDIA Hairworks performance and missing DLSS in one PC release.
What the early Steam reviews said
Tech4Gamers reported that the game received more than 2,000 negative Steam reviews over three days after launch. It described complaints about performance and bugs, with particular concern among AMD GPU users; it also noted complaints from some NVIDIA users and that positive reviews continued to arrive. At the time of that report, the recent-review rating was “Mostly Positive.” These are the outlet’s dated observations, not a current Steam snapshot or an independently audited review sample. Tech4Gamers’ launch-period report
PC Guide reported a different snapshot: more than 1,100 negative reviews on launch day, which it described as 32% of reviews, and a 35% negative share on September 30. Those counts and percentages refer to separate dates and should not be added to Tech4Gamers’ three-day total. Steam’s broader review history can include opinion about the original game as well as activity unrelated to the Remastered release, so lifetime sentiment is not a clean measure of reaction to this update. Which problems were reported, and what was addressed?
The reports describe several distinct symptoms on different hardware and builds. They do not establish a single cause for every negative review, nor do they show that one fix resolved all launch complaints.

| Issue | What was reported | Response or qualification |
|---|---|---|
| AMD rendering | PC Guide described launch-day reports of missing in-game models and black artifacts on Radeon hardware. | The outlet said AMD Adrenalin Edition 26.9.2 became available a few hours after the game update, following the absence of a public driver at launch. This does not establish that every reported issue was resolved for every AMD setup. PC Guide |
| NVIDIA Hairworks | GamesRadar reported a separate PC performance issue associated with NVIDIA Hairworks. | On September 30, CD PROJEKT RED advised players to disable the setting until a patch addressed the issue. GamesRadar’s report |
| Xbox Play Anywhere PC release | Windows Central reported that DLSS was unavailable in this PC version, alongside lighting complaints including overly dark interiors. | Patch 5.00b addressed the missing DLSS and made lighting and parity adjustments. The article also said a further hotfix was planned for a problem preventing some users from saving. Windows Central’s Patch 5.00b coverage |
| Xbox Ally X experience | Windows Central’s October 1 update described glitchy lighting and poor performance in its check on an Xbox Ally X. | This is one outlet’s report on one device, not a platform-wide benchmark or proof that the same result applies to all handhelds. Windows Central |
In its September 30 coverage, GamesRadar reproduced CD PROJEKT RED’s statement: “We’ve identified an issue related to NVIDIA Hairworks that may significantly affect performance. We recommend disabling that setting until this is addressed in a patch.” That guidance concerned Hairworks specifically; it should not be read as a fix for AMD rendering artifacts, missing DLSS, lighting problems, or save issues.
How to interpret the reports on your own setup
Before treating a review or fix as relevant to your experience, check that it concerns the same platform, graphics feature, and game build. Reports about one PC launcher or GPU feature cannot automatically be applied to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Nintendo Switch 2.

- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth, and complexity.
- Take on the most important contract of your life: to track down the child of prophecy, the key to saving or destroying this world.
- Identify your PC release: distinguish Steam and other PC builds, including the Xbox Play Anywhere PC version. The missing-DLSS report concerned that Xbox release, not every version of the game.
- Match the symptom to the report: missing models and black artifacts were attributed to Radeon reports; the separate performance warning concerned NVIDIA Hairworks; DLSS and lighting reports concerned the Xbox Play Anywhere PC release.
- Check the date and version: launch-day impressions, September 30 driver and Hairworks coverage, and October 1 hotfix reporting describe different points in a fast-changing rollout.
- Keep the evidence in scope: the cited coverage does not provide controlled, platform-by-platform benchmarks or a verified review dataset. It cannot establish which platform performs best or how widespread each problem is.
PC Guide also reported that older PC builds could be selected through the launcher, while noting consoles did not have the same rollback option. That is a dated report, and version-selection options can change; check the current launcher or platform controls rather than assuming rollback remains available.

The publisher says the release includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, including for owners who previously had only the base game. Its listed changes include upgraded environment, NPC, and monster textures; foliage and lighting improvements; ray tracing and PC path tracing; PS5 Pro support; a reworked skill tree; combat animations and finishers; traversal changes; cross-platform mod support; interface changes; and Nintendo Switch 2 control features. These are the publisher’s feature descriptions, not independent performance-test results.
CD PROJEKT RED said the remaster grew from work on the planned Songs of the Past expansion: while developing that project, the team identified elements of the base game it wanted to upgrade, and the scope grew into a full game update.
