The developers of Teach My Little Sister How To Drive say the game’s Steam demo grew to more than 20 times its previous-month user count, while AI service spending passed US$1,000 a day. The figures are separate: the growth number is about demo users, not a 20-fold increase in costs. The team also said it took out a bank loan to help keep the demo running, but it has not announced a confirmed shutdown. These are developer-reported figures cited by LATENT, which says it did not audit invoices or usage logs.

What happened to the AI driving game demo?

Teach My Little Sister How To Drive is a voice-controlled driving simulation developed and published by Easy Fox. Players give driving instructions to a sister character as she drives. In an October 7, 2026 Steam announcement, Easy Fox said demo users had increased more than twentyfold over the previous month and AI service spending exceeded US$1,000 per day. LATENT reported those figures on October 8 and said it had not audited the underlying invoices or usage logs. LATENT’s report

The developers also said they had taken out a bank loan to help keep the demo operating. They discussed the possibility of ending the demo, but did not announce a settled closure. Nor did they publish a per-player cost, a verified breakdown of the daily spend, or a profitability calculation.

Why can more players make a voice-AI demo expensive?

Each voice conversation can involve an external AI service processing a player’s speech, game state and recent dialogue, then generating a response. More active players can mean more service use, but the reported user growth does not establish how much usage or spending increased per player. The available reporting does not provide enough information to calculate a cost per session or per user.

  • Smooth and realistic car handling with more than 30 levels

  • Realistic engine sounds for each vehicle

The developers said usage limits on Gemini led them to rely mainly on an OpenAI fallback. They described the resulting conversations as having longer replies, less natural speech and instructions that were sometimes executed incorrectly. These are the team’s reported experiences, not independently measured model comparisons. According to LATENT, the developers said Google Cloud would not manually raise their usage tier, and that the limits then in place kept them from building usage to qualify for an upgrade. What does the game disclose about its AI and voice data?

Easy Fox’s global AI transparency page, last updated August 27, 2026, describes Google Vertex AI as the usual primary provider, with OpenAI Realtime services as fallbacks. That earlier configuration predates the October report that the team was relying mainly on an OpenAI fallback after Gemini limits became a problem. Provider arrangements can change, so the two descriptions should be read with their dates in mind. Easy Fox’s AI transparency page

The transparency page says that, while a conversation is active, a player’s voice goes from the game directly to the external provider. The developer’s server checks ownership and returns a short-lived token; Easy Fox says voice does not pass through that server. The page also says providers receive voice, relevant game state and recent dialogue. Easy Fox says it does not retain voice recordings, though it can review generated replies through provider account logs and, with a player’s agreement, retain gameplay figures such as time per stage and failures. Mainland China has a different provider configuration and terms. Easy Fox’s explanation of data handling

Steam’s AI disclosure describes the sister’s voice as generated in real time using a local model, while Easy Fox’s August transparency page describes external voice services. The available descriptions do not reconcile those statements, so neither should be treated as a complete replacement for the other. Steam store listing and AI disclosure

How could the developers pay for AI use?

Easy Fox said it wanted to account for anticipated AI costs in the game’s price rather than charge players individually for tokens. That is a stated intention, not a finalized price or confirmed payment feature. The broader funding options for an AI game have different trade-offs:

Approach Who pays Player burden and limitations
Include expected AI costs in the game price The developer initially pays service costs and recovers some through game sales. Requires estimating ongoing use and setting a price that can cover variable service costs; Easy Fox has not announced a final price.
Use an eligible ChatGPT plan allowance A player may authorize an app to use eligible plan allowance or available credits. Access is limited: OpenAI says commercial Sign in with ChatGPT is available to selected partners. Its documented preview does not support audio or video input or the transcription API, so sign-in alone would not provide this game’s real-time voice conversations.
Charge usage to a player’s API account The player pays for their own API usage. Players must set up an account and manage usage; the approach can make costs more visible but adds setup and billing friction.
Run some processing locally The player supplies compatible hardware and bears its operating costs. Performance, response time, model distribution and setup support vary with player hardware. Easy Fox said local processing assistance for users with GPUs was in preparation, not already available to every player.

OpenAI’s September 28, 2026 integration guide describes how eligible ChatGPT Plus and Pro users can authorize an app to use plan allowance or available credits. It is a general option discussed in coverage of AI funding, not an announced feature of this game; Easy Fox has not been reported as having adopted it. What should players expect from the Steam version?

As of October 9, 2026, Steam lists a planned January 2027 release and says the full game is not yet available for purchase. A planned date is not confirmation that the game will launch then. The listing describes voice-instruction gameplay and requires a microphone. Its minimum PC requirements are Windows 10, 8 GB RAM, a GTX 1060 or RX 6800, broadband internet, 15 GB of storage and 4GB or more of VRAM. Check your existing hardware and microphone before deciding whether to play. Steam store listing

For a voice-driven game, a deliberate character mistake can be part of the experience; a repeated error that frustrates players or blocks intended play is a different problem. Useful design measures include response latency, reply length, consistency of character voice and whether the system follows allowed driving instructions. Those are evaluation criteria, not published benchmark results for this demo.
