Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag3 makes a meaningful platform change: Samsung says its core finding and location-sharing features work with both Galaxy and iOS devices. That gives it a potential edge for households that mix Android and iPhone. It does not establish that SmartTag3 is more accurate or reliable than Apple’s AirTag, or that it can use Apple’s Find My network.
What “beats Apple” means—and what it doesn’t
The strongest case for the headline is compatibility. Samsung says SmartTag3 can find and share tag locations using Galaxy and iOS devices, extending its core experience beyond Samsung phones. For someone who wants a tracker that can be set up or shared across a mixed-device household, that is a notable change.
That is not the same as joining Apple’s Find My network. Samsung’s announcement describes support for Galaxy and iOS devices, but does not say SmartTag3 becomes part of Find My. Nor does the available evidence establish a performance win over AirTag in location accuracy, speed, coverage, privacy, or reliability. “Beats Apple” is therefore a narrow platform-compatibility argument, not a proven head-to-head verdict.

Nearby finding
Samsung Canada lists Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding with a range of up to 60 m, along with UWB for nearby finding. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently tested results; actual usefulness depends on the environment and compatible device. See Samsung Canada’s SmartTag3 listing.
#1 Best Overall
- Find your things with ease: The SmartThings Find app uses Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to locate and keep track of your stuff
- Water and Dust Resistant: IP67 rating offers protection against dust and water immersion between 15 cm and 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
- Compatible with Galaxy Devices Only
Finding beyond direct range
When the tag is beyond a direct connection, Samsung’s Galaxy Find Network can help locate it through participating Galaxy devices. That is a different network from Apple’s Find My. Updates depend on nearby participating devices, network conditions, settings, and region, so network-assisted location is not guaranteed to be immediate or available everywhere. Samsung describes these qualifications in its global announcement.
What else changed from the previous SmartTag
- Smaller and lighter: Samsung says SmartTag3 is approximately 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than its predecessor. These are Samsung’s comparisons, not independent measurements.
- Additional alerts: Samsung announces added alerts, though the cited announcement does not provide enough detail to compare their coverage or behavior with Apple’s anti-stalking protections.
- Attachment options: Samsung identifies a Silicone Case with keyring and a Loop Case as official accessories. Check the local market and retailer to confirm availability and that the case is specifically for SmartTag3.
Samsung’s Korean announcement also gives battery-life figures, but the conditions and footnotes need to be checked in the relevant market source before those numbers can be meaningfully compared. They are not included here as a general endurance claim.

SmartTag3 is most compelling for someone who wants Samsung’s tracker experience to work across Galaxy and iOS devices, especially when different household members use different phone platforms. Before choosing it over AirTag, check which devices can set up and share the tag, which finding network you want to rely on, and which nearby-finding features your phone supports. The available Samsung announcements do not settle those points in a direct comparison with Apple’s tracker.
