Rockstar’s reported Coca-Cola comparison is about protecting unreleased game-design information—not evidence that GTA 6 Online and Coca-Cola use identical security systems. Tribunal reporting says Rockstar described an “online 32 player format” as confidential, but that does not confirm the number of players in a launch lobby.
What Rockstar reportedly compared to Coca-Cola’s formula
In reporting on a tribunal submission, Rockstar argued that keeping GTA VI’s unique gameplay and design confidential is comparable to Apple protecting the iPhone or Coca-Cola protecting its formula. The filing’s reported rationale was that new features and development information should not become public before release. Game Developer’s coverage of the tribunal arguments reproduces the statement.
The analogy describes the commercial importance of secrecy around valuable, unreleased information. It does not establish that Rockstar and Coca-Cola have equivalent security controls, or that they protect the same kind of information: a drink formula is a product recipe, while game-development secrets can include features, design decisions and plans.

September 2026 reporting on the tribunal says a confidential “online 32 player format” had been discussed. GTA BOOM’s report cautions that this is not confirmation of the final launch lobby size. The phrase is evidence that a 32-player format was discussed or tested, not a confirmed specification for GTA VI Online.

Rockstar’s official GTA VI page lists PlayStation 5 and official game information; the reviewed material does not specify an Online player count. Treat the 32-player detail as tribunal reporting, not an announced launch feature.
Why the comparison matters in a legal dispute
Rockstar’s reported argument places game-development confidentiality in the same broad category as protecting a valuable commercial asset. That helps explain why the company would characterize unreleased gameplay and design details as sensitive. It does not, by itself, prove that any particular secrecy measure is effective or that a specific feature will ship.

How Coca-Cola’s formula became a public story without becoming public knowledge
Coca-Cola’s own history describes the custody of its formula over time. Dr. John S. Pemberton invented Coca-Cola in Atlanta in 1886. In 1892, Asa Candler bought the rights to the business and secret formula. The formula was written down and placed in a New York bank vault in 1919 as collateral for a loan, returned to Atlanta in 1925 and placed in Trust Company Bank, then moved to the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta in 2011, after 86 years at the bank. The company’s account distinguishes public knowledge of the formula’s history and custody from public knowledge of the formula itself: it says the formula remains a mystery to most people. The World of Coca-Cola exhibit presents the story and custody of the formula, rather than making the recipe public.
