The Android AI tool behind the “Gemini on steroids” headline is ChatGPT. Parth Shah’s endorsement is based on his own experience using ChatGPT alongside Gemini—not on a controlled comparison. He preferred ChatGPT for the way it answered, one image-generation task, connected services, and its desktop apps, while recognizing that Gemini may suit drivers and people whose work centers on Google’s ecosystem.
What the headline means
Shah says he did not set out to replace Gemini; ChatGPT simply became the app he opened more often. “Gemini on steroids” is an emphatic metaphor for that personal preference, not a measured claim that ChatGPT is universally more capable. Android Police’s article, hosted by Yahoo Tech, presents an individual account rather than an independent head-to-head study.
Why Shah preferred ChatGPT
Answers that felt more natural to him
Shah found ChatGPT’s responses more natural and concise. He sometimes found Gemini’s answers robotic or over-explained. That is a judgment about his own interactions, not a controlled writing-quality test; custom instructions or a Gemini Gem could change the answers a person receives.
One image prompt followed more of the requested details
In Shah’s comparison, ChatGPT handled a complex café-scene prompt better, including the placement of objects and their relationships. The article does not report a benchmark, repeated trials, or a sample size, so this example cannot establish that ChatGPT will produce better images for other prompts.

Connections beyond Google services
Shah names Notion, Slack, Outlook, and Figma as services he can connect to his ChatGPT workflow. He contrasts that mix with Gemini’s more Google-centered connected-app experience. His account does not specify the plan, account, region, or other eligibility requirements for these connections, so treat the examples as his reported workflow rather than a guarantee of current access. The article’s connected-services discussion gives that comparison.
A desktop workflow he liked
Shah also preferred ChatGPT’s Mac and Windows apps, which he describes as more like a workspace, with chats, Work sessions, and Codex. This is his assessment of the desktop experience, not an independently verified comparison—and it may matter less if you primarily use AI on a phone.

When Gemini may be the better fit
Shah does not dismiss Gemini. He identifies driving and work that is entirely within Google’s ecosystem as cases where Gemini may be preferable. Which assistant suits you depends on the tasks and services you actually use, rather than on a universal ranking.
- If you need an assistant for driving, consider Gemini, which Shah sees as a reasonable choice for that use.
- If your daily work revolves around Google services, Gemini’s more Google-centered connected-app experience may fit naturally.
- If your workflow depends on services such as Notion, Slack, Outlook, or Figma, check whether the connections you need are available to your account before choosing based on Shah’s examples.
- If answer style or image generation is decisive, try both with your own prompts and judge the results you get; Shah’s anecdote is not a substitute for your own comparison.
- If you work across a desktop and Android, consider whether ChatGPT’s desktop workflow matters enough to influence your choice.
How to make the comparison useful for you
Use the same real tasks in both apps rather than relying on a sweeping label such as “on steroids.” For example, compare how each answers a question in the level of detail you prefer, handles an image prompt with specific object relationships, and fits into the services you use every day. If driving or Google-centered work is important, include that in your decision too. Shah’s article lists ChatGPT as free, but does not establish current regional availability, subscription details, or which features are eligible on which accounts; check the terms shown in your app before relying on that listing.
