League of Legends replays are now limited by whose match you are trying to watch. Starting with Patch 26.20, published October 6, 2026, you can still download and watch replays of matches you played in the League client, but you cannot download another player’s replay, and third-party apps and sites lose replay-download access. Riot says the change is intended to address security vulnerabilities involving League game data.
Why are League of Legends replays unavailable?
Riot changed replay access in Patch 26.20. The rule now centers on whether you played the match: your own match replay remains available through the client, while other players can no longer download it. Third-party apps and websites also lose replay-download access.
Riot attributes the change to security. Its patch notes say restrictions on third-party access to game memory are intended to close vulnerabilities recently exploited by cheat developers and others building unauthorized tools around League game data.
What you can still do
| What you want to watch | What is available under Patch 26.20 |
|---|---|
| A match you played | Download and watch the replay directly in the League client. |
| Another player’s match | You cannot download that player’s replay under the new rule. |
| A replay through a third-party app or site | Third-party replay downloads are no longer available. |
Watch your own match
Use the League client to download and view a replay of a match you played. Riot specifically says the change does not affect this personal replay review.

Watch or share a recording
A replay file and a video recording are different things: replay access is governed by the new rule, while a recording is a video you capture and keep. Riot’s 2017 announcement described an in-client tool for saving highlights as video files, but that historical description does not establish which recording or export controls are available in every current mode or patch. Check the controls in your current client rather than assuming a particular workflow is supported.
Check a third-party app’s status
If an app you use has stopped working, look for an announcement from its developer. Riot’s September 29, 2026 support article says it cannot promise that any particular application will remain functional.

Does the April 2027 grace period keep replay downloads available?
No. Riot’s support article describes a grace period until April 2027 for existing, approved third-party developers to transition features affected by the broader removal of game-memory access. They can move features to approved API mechanisms, formally request supporting API data, or sunset features without suitable alternatives. This is a transition for affected app features—not an exception to Patch 26.20’s replay-download restriction.

Riot also announced in Patch 25.23 that replays could be accessed through the Riot API. That 2025 announcement does not override the later Patch 26.20 rule removing third-party replay-download access.

How long are replays available?
Riot’s current Patch 26.20 notes do not state a replay-retention period or explain how to recover old replays. The often-repeated figure of approximately 14 days comes from Patch 14.6 in 2024: Riot said the system would return to storing replays for about that long after a temporary change. That is historical, patch-specific guidance, not a confirmed current guarantee.
