A random-looking entry in Settings > Screen Time > Always Allowed may be a webpage shortcut saved to your iPhone’s Home Screen, rather than a conventional installed app. Check for a matching Home Screen icon or name first. That explanation has been reported for this symptom, but Apple does not identify every unfamiliar entry as a shortcut; if nothing matches, its origin may remain unclear.
What “Always Allowed” means
Apple’s Always Allowed list controls which apps remain available and which contacts can be reached regardless of Screen Time schedules or Time Allowances. The list describes availability under Screen Time; by itself, it does not explain how an item got onto the iPhone.

Apple’s guide says you can select “apps you can use and contacts you can communicate with at all times,” regardless of those limits. The current guide describes the latest Schedules and Time Allowances features as requiring iOS 27 or later; menu wording and feature availability can vary by iOS version, and that requirement should not be taken to mean every Screen Time control is unavailable on earlier software. Why an unfamiliar entry might appear
A troubleshooting guide reports that a random-looking string of letters and numbers in Always Allowed was a webpage link added to the Home Screen. A saved webpage shortcut can have a name or icon that does not look like a familiar app, which is why checking the Home Screen is a useful first step. This is a reported explanation, not an Apple-confirmed diagnosis for every strange listing. Solve Your Tech’s report about a random-looking Always Allowed entry

- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
How to check and remove the entry
- Inspect the listing. On the iPhone, open Settings > Screen Time > Always Allowed and note the unfamiliar name and icon. Exact labels may vary with iOS version.
- Look for a matching Home Screen shortcut. Check Home Screen pages and folders for a webpage icon or name that corresponds to the entry.
- Delete a matching shortcut if you no longer want it. The symptom-specific guide reports that deleting the matching Home Screen webpage link made its entry disappear from Always Allowed. This result is not established for unrelated listings.
- For a recognizable app, change its allowed status. In Always Allowed, tap Edit and remove the app from the list. This changes whether it is allowed under Screen Time; Apple’s instructions do not describe it as uninstalling the app.
Which case fits?
| What you see | What to check or do | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| Unfamiliar, random-looking name or icon | Compare it with webpage shortcuts on Home Screen pages and in folders. | A secondary troubleshooting guide reports this explanation for one such entry; Apple does not confirm it as the cause of every unfamiliar item. |
| Recognizable app you do not want available under Screen Time | Open Always Allowed, tap Edit, and remove the app. | Apple documents this as a way to change the allowed list, not to uninstall the app. |
| No matching shortcut and no recognizable app | Do not infer an origin from the name alone. | The cited Apple guidance and symptom-specific report do not identify every unexplained entry. |
Could another device or a parent’s settings be involved?
Apple says Share Across Devices can sync Screen Time settings and reports across signed-in iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. That makes shared settings relevant context, but Apple does not say this syncing creates unfamiliar Always Allowed entries. Apple’s guide to getting started with Screen Time
If a parent manages a child’s Screen Time through Family Sharing, that is a management context—not an explanation for what an unfamiliar entry is. Apple’s child Screen Time guidance, published September 22, 2026, says updated parental controls require supported current software across the Family Sharing group; people unable to update all devices can continue using the previous Screen Time experience. Does a weird entry mean the iPhone is compromised?
No conclusion about compromise follows from an odd name alone. The cited Apple documentation describes the feature and how to edit it, while the symptom-specific guide offers a possible webpage-shortcut explanation. Neither establishes that every unfamiliar entry is malware, a system app, or a known iOS bug. If no shortcut or recognizable app accounts for the listing, these sources do not establish its origin.
